Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance sulfide corrosion crack resistance of a high tensile steel by restricting Nb, C and N content of the steel to a range represented by a specified equation to inhibit the formation of Nb(CN).
CONSTITUTION: This high tensile steel contains 0.005W0.2% C, 0.05W0.5% Si, 0.6W1.4% Mn, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.003% S, 0.005W0.05% Nb, 0.01W0.1% sol. Al and ≤0.006% N while restricting Nb, C and N content to a range represented by the equation. The steel may contain one or more among 0.1W1% Cu, 0.05W1% Cr, 0.05W1% Mo, 0.1W0.5% Ni and 0.005W0.1% V. By further adding a predetermined amount of Ca, MnS is spheroidized, and free N in the steel is captured by adding one or more among ≤0.05% Ti, ≤0.005% La, ≤0.005% Ce and ≤0.05% Zr. Thus, the sulfide corrosion crack resistance of the steel is enhanced furthermore.
