Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high strength without deteriorating the hot workability and corrosion resistance of SUS304 by utilizing the dissolving action of Si and N in addition to N of stainless steel, adding an adequate amount of Mn, adjusting the Cr and Ni contents, and further adding N.
CONSTITUTION: This steel consists of, by wt., 0.04W0.07% C, 1.2W3.0% Si, 2.3W 5.5% Mn, 7W15% Ni, 16W22% Cr, 0.20W0.40% N, 0.05W1.0% Nb and the balance Fe with impurities. N increases the pitting corrosion resistance remarkably, yet above the upper limit of N deteriorates the hot workability, etc. Si dissolves in the matrix to strengthen it and improves the corrosion resistance, etc. The lower limit of Si is decided from the viewpoint of hot workability, etc., and the upper limit from the viewpoint of a reduction in the N dissolving limit and the structural balance. The upper limit of Cr is decided from the viewpoint of the structural balance, and that of Ni from the viewpoint of hot workability and a reduction in the N dissolving limit. Mn raises the N dissolving limit according to the Si, Cr and Ni contents, yet above the upper limit of Mn deteriorates the hot workability. Nb makes the grains fine and enhances the strength and hot workability, yet above the upper limit of Nb deteriorates the workability.
