Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtaina precipitation hardening type hot working tool steel with high toughness and superior temper softening resistance by adding a little Nb or Zr to an Ni-Cr-Mo steel having a specified composition.
CONSTITUTION: This steel consists of 0.15W0.25% C, 0.1W2.0% Si, 0.1W2.0% Mn, 1.6W2.4% Ni, 1.5W2.9% Cr, 1.5W2.5% Mo, 0.1W0.8% V, 0.5W3.0% Cu, 0.5W2.0% Co, 0.01W0.05% Nb and/or Zr, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. By adding such a specified amount of V, Cu and Co an Ni-Cr-Mo steel, the toughghness, precipitation hardenability and temper softening resistance are improved. By further adding such a fixed amount of Nb and/or Zr to cause grain refining, the toughness is further enhanced, and the precipitation hardenability and temper softening resistance are raised remarkably.
