Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain soft magnetic material having superior machinability and workability and free from deterioration in the magnetic characteristics and corrosion resistance by adding a specified amount of N and B to a Cr-contg. alloy steel and further adding Mn together with Ti and S in a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: This alloy steel for a soft magnetic material contains <0,10% C, 11.5W20.0% Cr, 1W5% Si, 0.005W0.10% N, 0.001W0.10% B and <0.50% Mn and further contains <0.50% Ti and <0.30% S so that the ratio of Ti/S becomes ≥0.5. At least one of <0.5% Al, <0.3% Nb,<0.3% Zr and <0.3% V as a grain refining component and at least one of <3%Ni, <4%Mo and <3%Cu as a corrosion resistance improving component may be added separately or combinedly. The addition of N and B inhibits secondary recrystallized grains from coarsening without deteriorating the magnetic properties, and by adding Mn together with S and Ti in such a specified ratio, sulfide is spheroidized to provide superior workability and machinability.
