Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hot working tool steel with high toughness and superior temper softening resitance by adding a little Nb or Zr to an Ni-Cr-Mo steel having a specified composition.
CONSTITUTION: This steel consists of 0.26W0.50% C, 0.1W2.0% Si, 0.1W2.0% Mn, 1.6W2.4% Ni, 1.5W2.9% Cr, 1.5W2.5% Mo, 0.1W0.8% V, 0.5W3.0% Cu, 0.5W2.0% Co, 0.01W0.15% Nb and/or Zr, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. By adding such a specified amount of V, Cu and Co to an Ni-Cr-Mo steel, the toughness and temper softening resistance are raised. By further adding such a fixed amount of Nb and/or Zr to produce grain refining effect, the toughness and temper softening resistance are improved remarkably.
