Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the resistance of an austenite stainless steel to intergranular corrosion, intergranular stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion by adding specified amounts of N, Nb and Ta to the steel and regulating the B content.
CONSTITUTION: This austenite stainless steel contains <0.08% C, <2.0% Si, <2.0% Mn, <0.040% P, <0.030% S, 15.0W30.0% Cr, 6.0W30.0% Ni, <0.20% N, 0.05W0.10% Nb+Ta and <20ppm B or further contains one or more among <3.0% Cu, <3.0% Mo and <0.20% S. by adding N in combination with Nb and Ta, the precipitation of M23C6 type metallic carbide or metallic nitride on the grain boundaries is inhibited. By reducing the amount of B accelerating the precipitation of such carbide on the grain boundaries to the utmost, the precipitation of such carbide and nitride on the grain boundaries can be inhibited.
