Abstract
PURPOSE: The codntents of oxygen, sulfur, phosphorous contained in ordinary soft steel and low alloy steel, are limited to a low level, and Mg, Ca, rare earth elements, etc. are added to the material, thereby enhancing hot workability.
CONSTITUTION: A solft alloy including, C: 0.05 to 0.25%, Si: 0.10 to 1.0%, Mn: 0.30 to 2.0%, or if required, low alloy steel including one or more of Cu<0.6%, Ni<6.0%, Cr<3%, Mo<2.0%, V<0.10%, Nb<0.10%, Al<0.10%, Ti<0.90%, Zr<0.10%, B<0.006% is purified by means of double slag process or TN process, etc, to obtain the composition of O2<0.002%, S<0.002%, P<0.005%. Such soft steel or low alloy steel is added with 0.05% of one or more of Mg, Ca, or rare earth element. Such limitation of O2, S and P, and synergistic effect of Mg etc. addition contribute to the enhancement of hot workability.
