PURPOSE:To form an electrostatic image n a photoreceptor surface by causing pooarization in a dielectric corresponding to an original image by using a photoreceptor consisting of two layers, dielectric and photoconductor. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a drum 13 having a photosensitive layer consisting of two layers, dielectric 16 and photoconductor 15, is charged by a charger 19 to polarize both the layers. An original image 30, while irradiated, is charged by a charger 21 to make the light-irradiated part of the conductive layer conductive, so a dielectric layer in contact with the part is applied with a higher voltage varying polarization, so that the intensity of polarization reflects the original image. Then, it is exposed uniformly to a lamp 22 to eliminate the polarization in the photoconductor, so that an electrostatic image by the polarization of the dielectric appears on the surface of drum 13.
