Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve bonding between a bonding pad and an electrode metal, by a method wherein a concave section is provided at the oxide film around the bonding pad of a semiconductor substrate and the end of the bonding pad is held down by the glass coated film in the concave section. CONSTITUTION:A concave section is provided at an SiO2 film 2 installed on a semiconductor substrate 1 and the peripheral section of a bonding pad 52 is positioned at the concave section and the peripheral section is held down by a glass coated film 8 to bond an external lead terminal 9 to the bonding pad 52. This method intensifies the adhesion between the bonding pad and an electrode metal and improves the reliability of a semiconductor device.
