Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a liquid crystal cell having a uniform gap between the substrates with high yield, by setting a heat-resistant space between a pair of slab type substrates containing transparent electrodes, adhering the spacer to the substrate by means of a glass plate having a low melting point and then bending the substrate while applying heat and pressure to the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A heat-resistant spacer 4 of the Al2O3 powder, etc. is set on the surface of either one of the slab type upper and lower substrates 2 and 3 containing transparent electrodes 5 and 6, respectively. While a glass plate 7 of a low melting point is coated on the other substrate by a screen printing process, etc. as an adhesive layer member. Then this substrate is heated up to the melting point of the glass 7 to stick the glass to the substrate. After this, both substrates 2 and 3 are superposed on each other and adhered to each other by using the glass 7 again. Then these adhered substrates are held between molding tools 8a and 8b, and pressure is applied while heating the substrates by the heaters 9 and 10. In such a way, a liquid crystal cell having a uniform gap between the substrates is obtained. This liquid crystal cell has a curved surface and applied suitably to a wristwatch, etc.
