Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance greatly the display quality such as the contrast or the like by coating the light absorbing material to part or the whole of the periphery of the display element.
CONSTITUTION: Light absorbing material 16 and 17 are coated between transparent electrode film 14 and 15 which are formed on substrate 12 and 13. In this manufacturing process, the glass plates are used for transparent substrate 12 and 13. The material containing silver is coated into the fixed shape, and a heat treatment is given at the temperature lower by 0W50°C than the softening point of the glass of the substrate in order to form the light absorbing part. Thus, the light transmittance can be varied easily for material 16 and 17 by changing the conditions of the heat treatment and then controlling the diffusion quantity of the silver.
