Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a patterned orientation-treated film by selectively removing an orientaion-treated film formed on an electrode substrate. CONSTITUTION:On an orientation-treated layer 3 formed over the entire surface of a glass substrate 1 by a rubbing treatment, a transparent electrode 2 of indium oxide is vapor-deposited through a patterned mask. On it, a film of ultraviolet-ray setting resin is formed by a spinner coating method. Then, this resin film is irradiated with rays from a mercury lamp through the patterned mask which is trasparent only where the resin film is left and is untransmissive at the other part, and then the substrate is dipped in acetone, thus forming a patterned orientation-treated film 4. In this case, the orientation-treated films 3 and 4 are oriented differently, and consequently even when a voltage is applied to a CNT cell continuously, ''exudation'' never occurs at the circumference of the electrode, obtaining display of high quality.
