Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce with high yield a liquid crystal cell having a curved surface, by using glass materials having different thermal expansion coefficients for the upper and lower substrates of the liquid crystal cell and obtaining a curved surface by the difference of the thermal expansion coefficients that is caused when both substrates are adhered with use of the glass having a low melting point. CONSTITUTION:The borosilicate glass having a high thermal expansion coefficient is used for an upper glass substrate 1; and the soda lime glass having a low thermal expansion coefficient is used for a lower glass substrate 2. The transparent electrodes 3 and 4 are formed to the substrates 3 and 4, respectively. Then the glass of a low melting point is applied around the substrates 1 and 2 to form an adhesive layer 5. The substrates 1 and 2 are heated once independently to stick the layer 5 to the substrates. Then both substrates are superposed on each other and heated again, and the glass of a low melting point is melted again to adhere both substrates 1 and 2 together. Thus a liquid crystal cell which is curved convexly is easily obtained since the expansion coefficient of the substrate 1 is larger than that of the substrate 2.
