Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the thermal deterioration of a direction control surface so that a liquid crystal display element of twist nematic type may be sealed with frit glass by using glass having less content of alkalline metal as the glass substrate of the display element. CONSTITUTION:The glass substrates 1 and 2, which are formed with transparent electrodes 6 and 7 and direction control films 10 and 11, respectively, are jointed through a seal material 3, and a liquid crystal 4 is injected. Polarizing elements 12 and 13 are arranged at the both sides thereof, this constituting a liquid crystal display element of twist nematic type. As the above glass substrates, glass having less content of alkalline metal such as quartz glass, Pyrex glass or alumina borosilicate glass is used. By the use of such glass, the thermal deterioration of the direction control plane can be prevented to produce a direction control plane which can ensure a high temperature of about 450 deg.C. Thus, the sealing method with frit glass can be employed.
