Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a positive guest-host effect type color liquid-crystal panel with superior contrast, by using a substrate oriented by oblique vapor deposition and a bicolor liquid-crystal composite containing an added nonionic surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of nematic liquid crystal having negative dielectric- constant anisotropy and bicolor coloring matter is mixed with an about 0.1- 1.5wt% nonionic surface active agent (e.g., sorbitane monouralite) to the liquid crystal to obtain a liquid-crystal composite to be used. On glass substrates 1 and 4 each provided with a transparent electrode film 5, insulator thin films 2 and 3 having about 50-500Angstrom thickness are formed by vapor-depositing SiO2, MgF2, etc., slantingly (angle of vapor deposition; about 20-40 degree). Then, those substrates 1 and 4 are stucked together so that the vapor-deposition directions (arrows 10 and 11) are opposite and parallel, and the said liquid-crystal composite is sealed between the both to obtain a display panel (where 7 is liquid-crystal molecules and 8 is bicolor coloring matter molecules).
