Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the color unevenness of a display owing to irregularity in the rotating direction of molecules by forming a liquid crystal layer by the negative liquid crystal added with a light dichromatic dye, making the orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules≤10° without including 0° in the normal direction of the surface of the substrate and forming the same into TN type liquid crystal structure.

CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display device consists of transparent glass substrates 1, 2, transparent conductive films 3, 4, orientation films 10, 11, a liquid crystal layer 7 consisting in mixing about 1% dichromatic dye into a nematic liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy and a pair of polarizing plates 12, 13. The orientation film 11 comprises the film 15 formed by applying DMOAP treatment to the film 14 formed by evaporating SiO from the 65°W85° directions with respect to the normal direction of the substrate surface on the glass substrate 2 deposited with L₂O₃ as a transparent conductive film 4. Liquid crystal molecules 8 and dye molecules 9 are made≤10° without including 0° in the angle θ that their long axis directions assume to the normal direction A of the substrate surface and the liquid crystal molecules are so formed as to assume TN type liquid crystal structure. When applied with voltage, the molecules 8, 9 rotated in the same direction and therefore the color unevenness of the display may be eliminated.
