Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve reliability while lowering an operating voltage by enabling glass frit sealing by providing an SiO slanting-vapor-deposition layer on one electrode surface and then a specific organosiloxane coating on it and by providing a horizontal orientation-processed layer on the other electrode surface.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of organosiloxane expressed by the formula (R is methyl or phenyl, and (m) and (n) are positive integers while m/n=0.5W100) is applied on an SiO-slanting-vapor-depostion layer, formed on the transparent electrode surface on one substrate, and dried to form a coating of approximate 0.05μm thickness. On the electrode surface of the other substrate, a polyimide coating is formed and the polyimide film surface is oriented horizontally. Both the substrates are staeked by being glass frist with a spacer interposed and press-joined by being heated and after liquid crystal is injected, Cr-Ni-Au vapor deposition is carried out as to the injection opening for sealing. On both flanks of the cell, a couple of polarizing plates are arranged differing in angle in the rubbing direction of the polyimide layer to obtain an HAN (Hybrid Aligned Nematic mode) system display element.
