Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent creeping-up of liquid crystal owing to capillarity in liquid crystal injection process and solve the problems such as decreased workability, increased cost and other by providing sealing-up material in the specified portions other than the injection ports between two sheets of large-size substrates.
CONSTITUTION: Large-size substrates 5a, 5b are bonded by way of a spacer 3 in- between, thereby forming hermetic cases 12. While the empty panel thus formed is being warmed to about 80 to 100°C, e.g., hydrogenated 1, 4-polybutadiene polymer as sealing-up material is coated on the circumferential edge parts of the substrates 5a, 5b except the injection ports 6 of the cases 12. Since this polymer becomes liquid at above 80°C, it penetrates between the substrates 5a, 5b. It sets when returned to ordinary temperature. Next, liquid crystal 1 is injected through each injection port 6, after which the injection ports 6 are sealed by sealant 7. Finally, the cases 12 are divided individually, whereby the liquid crystal cells are constituted.
