Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform inter-electrode substrate spacing by providing the same color filter layer as the color filter layer of a display part to the outside of the sealing part on the electrode substrate having the color filter layer. CONSTITUTION:The outside circumferential color filter layer 9 is provided like the color filter layer 3 of the display part to the outside circumferential part as well in the sealing part 5 of the color filter side electrode substrate 1. The color filter layer 3 and the outside circumferential color filter layer 9 are prepd. in exactly the same manner by the same stage and the layer thicknesses are the same within the substrate 1. The spacing between the electrode substrates 1 and 2 is determined by the diameter of an in-panel spacer 6 between the color filter layer 3 and the counter electrode substrate 2 and does not depend on the thickness of the color filter layer 3. The uniformity of the spacing between the electrode substrates 1 and 2 is, therefore, confined within, for example, + or -0.2mu.
