Abstract

PURPOSE: To set an excellent display state for multiplex drive by depositing a transparent insulating oriented film with a specific ratio between a dielectric constant and film thickness on the surfaces of a transparent electrode and a transparent insulating film charged to the same thickness with the electrode.
CONSTITUTION: Inside of glass substrate 1, transparent electrodes 2 are formed with a pattern and in the pattern gaps between those electrodes, transparent insulating films 3' of the same film thickness with electrodes 2 are arranged; and on their surfaces, transparent insulating oriented films 4 and 5 are vapor-deposited. Thus obtained glass substrates 1 and 2 are arranged opposing to each other and a spacer is interposed to constitute a liquid crystal cell, which is filled with a liquid crystal substance to a liquid crystal display device. Here, the ratios of specific dielectric constant εb to film thickness db of transparent insulating oriented films 4 and 5 should be 107m-1W1010m-1. Thus, the contrast ratio curve maintains sharp rising characteristics sufficiently and for multiplex drive, an excellent display state can be obtained.
