As the substrate glass of a liquid crystal cell, the SiO2 film 21 is provided except when glass which contains little Na2O like sapphire glass is used. In this case, a method of sputtering by heating the material up to <=350 deg.C secures performance higher than that by a conventional impregnating means, a CVD method without causing deterioration.
