Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the elliptical polarization rate of a polarized light beam electrically by utilizing the anisotropy that liquid crystal has. CONSTITUTION:Between a couple of transparent electrode substrates made of glass plates 4 provied with transparent electrodes 5, nematic liquid crystal 6 is sandwiched to obtain a polarization controller. A light beam of linear polarized light 3 slinting at 45 deg. to optical axis 2 of the said controller is incident to the substrate at right angles and a voltage applied to the transparent electrode, on the other hand, is varied to emit the light beam while changing its polarized light into optional polarized light (linear-elliptical-circular).
