Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve durability without impairing responsiveness by coating EC material surfaces with P-type semiconductors in the electrolytic type EC display device which uses transition metal films as electrochromic (EC) material.
CONSTITUTION: The EC display body is formed by the system composed of amorphous WO3/P-type semiconductor film/electrolytic solution. More specifically, a WO3 film 4 and a film 5 of P-type semiconductor (e.g., Cr2O3) covering this are formed on the glass substrate 1 provided with transparent electrodes 2, 3. On the other hand, WO3 film 9, 7 and P-type semiconductor films 8, 6 are alternately laminated and formed on the glass substrate 11 provided with a transparent electrode 10. Next, the substrates 1, 11 mentioned above are opposedly disposed by way of a spacer 17 and an electrolyte 15 is sealed in the spacing thus formed, whereby the EC display body is formed. Here, containing said P-type semiconductors in the EC material is equally well.
