Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the decrease in the adhesive power of an org. sealing material by forming SiO2 films on the surfaces to be superposed with the org. sealing parts of two sheets of light transmittable electrode substrates provided with display electrodes. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 films 21, 22 are formed on the surfaces to be in contact with the org sealing member 11 of two sheets of light transmittable electrode substrates 1, 6 provided with display electrodes and orientation films 5, 10 on opposite surfaces, and the substrates 1, 6 are sealed with the material 11 by maintaining a prescribed space, then a liquid crystal 12 is sealed therein. Thereby, the occurrence of moisture absorption and staining of the transparent conductive films is obviated, and while with conventional elements peeling occurs in about 250 hours in an atmosphere of 60 deg.C temp. and 95% humidity, this liquid crystal display element has durability of >=500 hours.
