Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of electrodes and coloring layers by constituting ion conductive layers with ion conductive films and films suppressing the diffusion of ions in the electrochromic (EC) element using solid electrolyte as ion conductive layer.
CONSTITUTION: Transparent electrode layers 1 and WO3 layers 2 are formed on a glass substrate 4 of the EC element and ion-diffusion suppressing films 3a are formed on the EC layers 2 through vapor deposition of Ca3N2, etc. Next, ion conductive films 3b are formed by Li3N, etc. through sputtering or the like. The films 36 are 0.05 to /μ in thickness and the films 3a are about 0.01W0.1μ. The specific resistance of the films 3a is made 5W10000 times the films 3b, usually about 5W50 times. In this way, the deterioration of the electrodes 1, counter electrodes 1' and EC layers 2 is prevented and contrast improved, thus the good display function may be obtained.
