Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a long-life electrochromic display element by forming counter electrochromic substance layers between a dielectric layer and a transparent conductor layer as the 2nd electrode. CONSTITUTION:On transparent substrate 11, transparent conductor layer 12 as the 1st electrode is formed and on it, display EC substance layer 13 and dielectric layer 14 are formed by the PVD method. On it, counter EC substance layer 15 is further provided which shows optical electrochromic (EC) reaction, but seldom colors in the visible range, and the other transparent conductor layer 16 as the 2nd electrode is formed lastly to complete EC cell structure. In addition, the cell structure inverse of the said structure may be used. Namely, transparent conductor layer 22 as the 2nd electrode is formed on transparent substrate 21 and on the layer, counter EC substance layer 23 which while showing electro-optical EC reaction, seldom colors in the visible range is formed by PVD. On the layer, dielectric layer 24 and display EC substance 25 are formed in the PVD method and transparent conductor layer 26 as the 1st electrode is formed lastly to complete the EC cell structure.
