Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of electricity which is supplied to an electrochromic layer, and to improve a display contrast, by executing the display by the electrochromic layer consisting of two layers. CONSTITUTION:On the inside surface of a substrate is provided a transparent elecrically conductive film 6, on which an opposed electrode 7 is provided. On one surface of a substrate 2 is provided the first transparent electrode 8, on which the first EC layer is formed as a pattern. The surface of the transparent electrode 8 except the EC layer is covered with an insulation layer, and the space between the substrates 1, and 2 is packed with the first electrolytic layer. On the other surface of the substrate 2 is formed the second transparent electrode 12, and the second EC layer 13 is formed so as to it make the same display pattern as the first EC layer.
