Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the display area and achieve the reduction in thickness by making all of the electrode substrates of the plural layer optical display cell nearly in the same shape and same size and connecting the respective electrode lead terminals between the opposing face side edges of the respective electrode substrates by means of the specific conductive layers.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate 11 having upper segment electrodes 14a in a liquid crystal display cell or the like, an intermediate electrode substrate 12 having a common electrode 15a on the top surface and segment electrodes 14b on the bottom surface, and a lower electrode substrate 13 having a common electrode 15b on the top surface are constituted by the substrates of the same shape and same size. The spacing between the substrates 11W13 are sealed by means of spacers 16a, 16b respectively. The respective lead terminals 17a, 17b of the segment electrodes 14a, 14b are led out to the side edges of the substrates 11, 12 and the common electrodes 15a, 15b are also led out by averting the terminals 17a, 17b. These terminals are connected by providing conductive layers 18W20 and terminal electrodes 18aW19a are formed to the bottom face side edges of the cell. In this way, the display area may be taken wider than conventional plural layer display cells.
