Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an element of high quality whose gap never varies with temperature by curling the plastic substrate so that its electrode surface side is convex and by assembling it into a liquid crystal dislay element. CONSTITUTION:A seal part 2 is provided and on a lower substrate film 1b holding insulating particles (internal spacer) 3 and liquid crystal, a substrate 1a curled so that its electrode surface side is convex is mounted; and pressure plates 9a and 9b are pressed to the substrate to press-contact both the substrates 9a and 9b at the sealing part 2, forming a liquid/crystal display element. (The lower substrate film 1b may also be curled similarly.) Said curling is carried out by applying the substrates with bending stress or by providing a polymer insulating film less in coefficient of thermal expansion than the substrates onto the substrates.
