PURPOSE:To minimize the complexity of circuit constitution through the addition of parity and to assure the reliability of data, by using the same parallel storage element as a main storage element as a parity storage element. CONSTITUTION:The same parallel storage element as a main storage element Mi is used as a parity storage element PM, and each bit of the element PM is corresponded to the word of element groups MO-M7 one by one through the function of a bit selection circuit 5. The lower rank bit of an address signal A is given to the element PM and the upper rank bit is given to the circuit 5. At data readout, a selection signal SEL and a read/write control signal R/W is applied to the element PM via the circuit 5, the parity signal from the element PM is read out in parallel and applied to the circuit 5. The circuit 5 selects only one bit designated among parity signal groups and gives it to a control circuit 4. The circuit 4 makes parity check with a data D of one word read out from the element group M and a parity signal Dp.
