Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the insertion of a cooling material and make possible automatic pouring work by putting cooling materials into a box type case which is meltable by the heat of a solidified shell and interposing this case between the solifidied shell and a dummy bar head.
CONSTITUTION: Beforehand, a connecting bar 2 and a suitable amount of cooling materials 3, 4 are put into a box type case 6, and these are prepared as one pack. The case 6 consists of a material which is easy to melt by the heat of the frozen shell, such as a steel sheet, plastics, waterproofed paper or waterproofed fabric, and is so formed as to prevent water from entering to the inside except into gas venting holes. A dummy bar head 1 connecting the case 6 to the leading end of the dummy bar head is inserted into a mold 5 through the bottom end opening of the mold 5. When molten metal is poured into the mold 5 through its top end opening, the molten metal is cooled by the mold 5; at the same time, the case 6 melts and the molten metal is cooled by the internal cooling materials 3, 4, whereby the solidified shell is formed. This shell is connected to the dummy bar head 1.
