Abstract

PURPOSE: To accelerate one directional solidification, reduce the occurrence of ghost, and improve yield by placing a cap body cong. a heat insulating material hermetically in the top edge opening part of a mold.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 3 is poured into a mold 2 placed on a molding board 1. A heat insulating material 4 affixed on the inside circumferential wall of the mold 2 prevents the solidification of molten metal 3 occuring in cooling from the side walls of the mold 2 as far as possible. A heat insulating material 5 such as fusible adiabatic flux or the like is filled on top of the molten metal 3, and a cover body 6 containing a heat insulating material is placed in the top edge opening part of the mold 2, to hermetically close the mold 2 and to form an air heat insulation layer 7 between the heat insulating material 5 and the cap body 6, whereby the heat inslulation in the head part of the molten metal is accomplished perfectly, and the solidification from the head part of the molten metal is prevented.
