Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress segregation and improve quality by providing a 3-layer type feeding flask on the inner side wall of a mold, and casting a steel ingot while suppressing the solidification from its side walls.
CONSTITUTION: A feeding flask 2 is provided on the inner wall of a mold 1 placed on a molding board 3. The flask 2 consists of the three layers, a heat insulation layer 2a in contact with the entire surface of the inner wall of the mold 1, a heat evolving layer 2b in contact with the entire inside surface of said layer 2 and a heat insulation layer 2C in contact with the entire inside surface of the layer 2b. If a steel ingot is cast by providing such flask 2, the head part of the flask 2 reduces head part segregation and V segregation by the cooperation with a head part heat insulating material 4. In the steel ingot middle part of the flask 2, the surface is kept smooth as the heat insulating material 2c in contact with the ingot withstands collapsion owing to heat; in addition, the occurrence of inverse V segregation by the solidification from the side surfaces of the ingot is suppressed by the heat evolution and insulation functions of the flask 2. Consequently, the formation of the negative segregation in the bottom part accompanied with the formation of the inverse V segregation is obviated, and the sound steel ingot is obtained.
