Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the wear resistance of a WC-Ni alloy by adding a specified amount of VC to the alloy and substituting carbide or nitride of transition metal and an iron group metal other than Ni for WC and Ni in a specified ratio to convert carbide or nitride crystals in the alloy into extrafine particles.
CONSTITUTION: This WC-Ni alloy consists of 3W30% Ni as a binding metal, VC (1.6W6.5% V) in 2W8% to the amount of the binding metal and the balance WC and further contg. transition metal carbide or nitride and an iron group metal other than Ni by substitution for WC and Ni in ≤1 ratio, respectively. By this composition carbides in the alloy are mostly converted into extrafine particles of ≤1μm, resulting in high hardness, high strength and superior wear resistance. This alloy is applicable to dies, a plug, a metal mold, etc.
