Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance, toughness, and resistance to damage due to sticking and separation and also to provide superior properties as tool material, by specifying respective contents of Co, Cr, Ta, V, etc., and also regulating the grain size of WC to a specific value or below. CONSTITUTION:This sintered hard alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 3-30% Co and/or Ni, 0.2-0.8% Cr, 0.4-1.8% of one or more kinds among Ta, (Ta, Nb)C, and V, and the balance WC and has a structure in which the average grain size of WC in the alloy is regulated to <=0.7mu. By regulating the additive quantities of one or more kinds among Cr3C2, TaC, (Ta, Nb)C, and VC as grain-growth inhibitors to values in the prescribed ranges, respectively, the average grain size of WC can be controlled to <=0.7mu. By this method, not only WC but also the added carbides act as dispersion strengthening factors, by which the strength of the alloy can be remarkably improved.
