Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled sintered body with superior hardness, toughness, heat resistance and wear resistance by mixing cubic system BN powder with powder of a heat resistant compound and powder of a metal, its alloy or compound after which the mixture is molded and sintered at high temp. and pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Cubic system boron nitride (CBN) powder is mixed with powder of carbide, nitride, boride or silicide of a IVa, Va or VIa groups transition metal in the periodic table, a mixture of the carbide, etc. or a mutual solid soln. compound and powder of Al, Si, Ni, Co, Fe, an alloy contg. them or a compound. The mixed powder is optionally press molded and sintered at high temp. and pressure with a superhigh pressure apparatus to manufacture a sintered body for a high hardness tool. The body consists of 30W20vol% CBN, ≥50vol% said heat resistance compound of the IVaWVIa group transistion metal and the balance said specified metal, alloy or compound as a continuously binding phase.
