Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hard sintered alloy for a tool with superior wear resistance by mixing a specified percentage of powdered starting material consisting of carbide, nitride or carbonitride of a specified high m.p. metal as a hard phase and of Cr, Mo, W or Nb as a binding phase.
CONSTITUTION: Powdered starting material consisting of 30W90vol% hard phase represented by M(N1-XCX)Y, 10W70vol% binding phase of 1 or ≥2 kinds of high m.p. metals selected from Cr, Mo, W and Nb, and inevitable impurities is well mixed by a mechanical method and pulverized while preventing oxidation. The resulting powder is molded and sintered in a vacuum to obtain the desired alloy. In the formla M is 1 or ≥2 kinds of IVa group metals such as Ti, Zr and Hf, Ti is especially preferable, 0≤x≤0.4, and (y) is within a range where it coexists with M. In order to enhance the strength of the alloy, to the hard phase may be added ≤60% of 1 or ≥2 kinds of carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides of Va and/or VIa group metals.
