Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the toughness of a super hard sintered alloy based on carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides of 4a or 5a group metals in the periodic table and contg. Mo or Cr carbide without deteriorating the wear and heat resistances by constituting the central portion of the hard dispersion phase of the alloy with WC.
CONSTITUTION: One or more kinds of cpds. selected from the carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of the 4a and 5a group metals in the periodic table, e.g. TiC as principal components are mixed with 1W30% of one or more out of Mo2C, Cr3C and Mo, 1W40% of WC and 1W40% of an iron group metal such as Ni or Co as binding metal in the form of powder. At this time, the WC particles are used at a state where the surfaces are covered with powder of the hard material such as TiC, and the mixt. is sintered in a vacuum after molding. The resulting sintered super hard alloy material has remarkably enhanced toughness while holding the wear and heat resistances.
