Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the extent of shrinkage of spheroidal graphite cast iron to the utmost and to make the structure uniform by restricting the upper limit of Ti in the cast iron and adding a very small amount of Sb or further adding a proper amount of Cu.
CONSTITUTION: This spheroidal graphite cast iron has a composition consisting of, by wt., 2.8W4.2% C, 1.5W4.3% Si, ≤0.8% Mn, ≤0.2% P, ≤0.05% S, ≤0.3% Ti, 0.005W0.07% Mg, 0.01W0.04% Sb and the balance essentially Fe or further contg. ≤5.0% Cu. The graphite spheroidizing rate of this case iron is regulated to ≥50%. The extent of shrinkage of this cast iron is small, and this cast iron has a uniform structure and superior mechanical properties such as high tensile strength.
