Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.次の: (a)偏光子用素子と、 (b)該偏光子用素子と実質的に接触しているテーパーの付いた導波路のアレ イ とを含んでなり、ここで (i)該導波路の各々の細くなった端は該偏光子用素子から外側に向かって延 びており、 (ii)該導波路の各々は該偏光子用素子(a)に隣接した入光面と該入光面か ら遠位にある出光面とを有し、 (iii)該導波路の各々の入光面の面積は、その出光面の面積より大きく;そ して (iv)該アレイ中の導波路は、該導波路の屈折率より小さい屈折率を有する間 隙領域で隔てられている、 改良された偏光子。 2.次の: (c)基板、および (d)接着剤層 をさらに含み、ここで該基板(c)は該偏光子用素子(a)によりテーパー付き 導波路のアレイ(b)から隔てられており、また接着剤層(d)は該基板(c) により偏光子用素子(a)から隔てられている、請求の範囲第1項に記載の改良 された偏光子。 3.(e)導波路の細くなった端に隣接した保護層をさらに含んでいる、請求 の範囲第2項に記載の改良された偏光子。 4.(f)液晶セルをさらに含み、ここで接着剤層(d)が基板(c)を該液 晶セル(f)から隔てている、請求の範囲第3項に記載の改良された偏光子。 5.(g)カラー・フィルターグリッドアレイをさらに含んでいる、請求の範 囲第4項に記載の改良された偏光子。 6.偏光子用素子が、水平の視軸と該水平視軸に垂直な軸により規定される面 に平行に偏光された光を提供するように配向されている、請求の範囲第1項に記 載の改良された偏光子。 7.偏光子用素子が、導波路の断面の短軸と該導波路の断面に垂直な軸により 規定される面に平行に偏光された光を提供するように配向されている、請求の範 囲第1項に記載の改良された偏光子。 8.導波路の各々の入光面の断面が約10ミクロンから約100ミクロンであ り、そして該導波路の各々の出光面の断面が約5ミクロンから約50ミクロンで ある、請求の範囲第1項に記載の改良された偏光子。 9.偏光子用素子(a)とテーパー付き導波路のアレイ(b)との間の間隔が 約250ミクロン未満である、請求の範囲第1項に記載の改良された偏光子。 10.偏光子用素子(a)とテーパー付き導波路のアレイ(b)との間の間隔 が約25ミクロンから約0ミクロンである、請求の範囲第1項に記載の改良され た偏光子。
