生体試料を対象から収集して対象のマイクロバイオームプロファイルを判定することができる。生体試料は、対象の体上の任意の微生物生息環境由来の任意の試料タイプであり得る。微生物生息環境の非限定的な例としては、皮膚生息環境、臍生息環境、膣生息環境、羊水生息環境、結膜生息環境、腸管生息環境、胃生息環境、腸生息環境、口腔生息環境、鼻生息環境、胃腸管生息環境、呼吸器生息環境、および尿生殖路生息環境がある。

本開示は、対象の少なくとも1つの微生物生息環境由来の生体試料中の少なくとも1種の微生物を測定し、マイクロバイオームプロファイルを判定するための方法を提供する。マイクロバイオームプロファイルは、マイクロバイオームを構成する1種または複数の微生物(細菌、真菌、ウイルス、および古細菌)を測定または定量化することができる任意の適当な検出手段を使用して査定することができる。

- 代謝障害の処置を必要とする対象における代謝障害を処置するための治療剤であって、前記治療剤は、アッカーマンシア ムシニフィラ(Akkermansia muciniphila)を含む単離および精製された微生物の第1の集団と、ユーバクテリウム ハリー(Eubacterium hallii)を含む単離および精製された微生物の第2の集団と、薬学的に許容される担体とを含み、ここで、前記代謝障害は、2型糖尿病、1型糖尿病、肥満およびインスリン非感受性からなる群から選択される、治療剤。
