Description
図1は、第1実施形態の液晶表示装置の構成を示す断面図である。液晶表示装置は、対向配置された第1基板11および第2基板12と、第1基板11に設けられた第1電極13と、第2基板12に設けられた第2電極14と、第1基板11と第2基板12の間に配置された液晶層17を基本構成として備える。本実施形態の液晶表示装置は、電極同士の重なり合う領域が表示したい文字や図案を形作るように構成され、基本的に予め定めた文字等のみを表示可能であり、概ね、有効表示領域内における面積比で多くとも70%以下、通常は50%以下の領域が文字等の表示に寄与するものであるセグメント表示型の液晶表示装置である。なお、液晶表示装置は、セグメント表示型とドットマトリクス型が混合したものであってもよい。
第2実施形態の液晶表示装置の基本的構成は上記した第1実施形態と同様であり、第1基板に設けられる渡り配線の構造が主に異なる。以下では、第1実施形態と共通する構成については同符号を用いることで詳細な説明を省略し、相違点について詳細に説明する。
第3実施形態の液晶表示装置の基本的構成は上記した第1実施形態等と同様であり、主に渡り配線を第2基板側に設けた点が異なる。以下では、第1実施形態と共通する構成については同符号を用いることで詳細な説明を省略し、相違点について詳細に説明する。
第4実施形態の液晶表示装置の基本的構成は上記した第1実施形態等と同様であり、主に渡り配線を第1基板側と第2基板側の双方に設けた点が異なる。以下では、第1実施形態と共通する構成については同符号を用いることで詳細な説明を省略し、相違点について詳細に説明する。
第5実施形態の液晶表示装置の基本的構成は上記した第1実施形態等と同様であり、主に第4実施形態における第1基板側の渡り配線と第2基板側の渡り配線の機能を変更点が異なる。以下では、第1実施形態等と共通する構成については同符号を用いることで詳細な説明を省略し、相違点について詳細に説明する。
次に、本発明を適用した液晶表示装置の実施例について説明する。

Claims (4)
- 複数の第1電極及び複数の第1ダミー電極を有する第1基板と、
複数の第2電極及び複数の第2ダミー電極を有する第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間に設けられる液晶層と、
前記液晶層を囲んで前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に設けられるシール材と、
前記シール材近傍又は内部に前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間で導通を行う導通部、
を含み、
前記シール材に囲まれる内部領域は、各々が複数のセグメント表示部を組み合わせて1つの意味を有する図柄を表現する領域である複数の単位表示領域と、当該各単位表示領域の相互間に存在する領域であるセグメント間領域と、当該各単位表示領域のそれぞれにおける各前記セグメント表示部に囲まれた内部の領域であるセグメント内領域とを含み、
当該複数の単位表示領域は、第1方向に沿って互いに離間して配置されており、
前記複数のセグメント表示部のそれぞれは、前記複数の第1電極の1つと前記複数の第2電極の1つの重なる領域において画定されており、
前記複数の第1電極のうちの少なくとも1つの第1電極は、
前記複数の単位表示領域にそれぞれに対応づけられており前記第1方向において互いに分離し、離間して配置された複数の電極部位と、
前記複数の電極部位のそれぞれに接続されており、それぞれが前記第1方向と異なる方向に沿って前記内部領域よりも外側まで延びる複数の第1引き回し配線と、
前記内部領域よりも外側に配置されており、前記複数の第1引き回し配線の相互間を接続する第1渡り配線と、
を有しており、
前記複数の第1ダミー電極は、少なくとも前記セグメント間領域と前記セグメント内領域のそれぞれに対応して配置されたものを含み、前記複数の第2ダミー電極は、少なくとも前記セグメント間領域と前記セグメント内領域のそれぞれに対応して配置されたものを含む、
液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1渡り配線は、前記シール材と重なる位置に配置されており、
前記第1基板は、少なくとも前記第1渡り配線を覆って配置される絶縁膜を更に有する、
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記複数の第1ダミー電極のうち前記セグメント内領域に対応づけられた第1ダミー電極は、前記少なくとも1つの第1電極の前記複数の電極部位の相互間領域を通って前記内部領域の外側まで延びる第1ダミー引き回し配線を有する、
請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記複数の第2ダミー電極のうちの2つ以上の第2ダミー電極は、
それぞれが前記第1方向と異なる方向に沿って前記内部領域よりも外側まで延びる複数の第2ダミー引き回し配線と、
前記内部領域よりも外側に配置されており、前記複数の第2ダミー引き回し配線の相互間を接続する第2渡り配線と、
を有しており、
前記複数の第1電極のうち、他の1つの第1電極は、
前記複数の単位表示領域にそれぞれに対応づけられており前記第1方向において互いに分離し、離間して配置された複数の電極部位と、
前記複数の電極部位のそれぞれに接続されており、それぞれが前記第1方向と異なる方向に沿って前記内部領域よりも外側まで延びる複数の第3引き回し配線と、
を有しており、
前記複数の第2ダミー引き回し配線と前記複数の第3引き回し配線との間が前記シール材を介して導通することにより、前記他の1つの第1電極の前記複数の電極部位の相互間が導通する、
請求項1〜3の何れか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
