- 第1絶縁基板と、前記第1絶縁基板上において画像を表示するアクティブエリアに配置されたスイッチング素子と、前記アクティブエリアにおいて前記スイッチング素子の上に配置されるとともに前記アクティブエリアの外側の周辺エリアに配置され前記周辺エリアに位置する第1表面及び前記第1表面よりも基板端側に位置する第1凹部を有する第1有機絶縁膜と、前記アクティブエリアにおいて前記スイッチング素子と電気的に接続された画素電極と、を備えた第1基板と、
第2絶縁基板と、前記第2絶縁基板の前記第1基板と対向側において前記周辺エリアに配置された遮光層と、前記周辺エリアにおいて前記遮光層に重なり前記第1表面と対向する第2表面、前記第1凹部と対向する第2凹部、及び、前記第1表面と対向する第3凹部を有する第2有機絶縁膜と、を備えた第2基板と、
前記周辺エリアにおいて前記第1表面と前記第2表面との間に介在する柱状スペーサと、
前記柱状スペーサを包含し前記第1表面と前記第2表面との間、及び、前記第1凹部と前記第2凹部との間に介在し、前記第3凹部に介在せず、前記第1基板と前記第2基板とを貼り合わせるシール材と、
前記シール材によって囲まれた内側において前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に保持された液晶層と、
を備え、
前記第2有機絶縁膜は、前記第1表面と対向する位置で前記遮光層に重なり前記第1凹部と対向する第1位置及び前記シール材によって囲まれた内側の第2位置でそれぞれ前記遮光層を露出するカラーフィルタと、前記カラーフィルタを覆い前記第2表面を形成し前記第1位置で前記遮光層を覆い前記第2凹部を形成し前記第2位置で前記遮光層を覆い前記第3凹部を形成するオーバーコート層と、を含み、
前記第2凹部及び前記第3凹部において、前記カラーフィルタは形成されておらず、前記オーバーコート層は前記遮光層と直接接触している、液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板は、さらに、前記第1絶縁基板と前記第1有機絶縁膜との間に前記アクティブエリアから前記周辺エリアに亘って延在した無機絶縁膜を備え、
前記第1凹部は、前記無機絶縁膜まで貫通した、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記シール材は、前記第1凹部において前記第1有機絶縁膜及び前記無機絶縁膜と直接接触した、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記シール材は、閉ループ状である、請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは、前記第3凹部と前記第2凹部との間において、前記遮光層及び前記カラーフィルタと重畳する領域に位置している、請求項1乃至4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
