Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 ［産業上の利用分野］ 本発明は原稿画像とPDL（ページ記述言語）により記
述されたコードデータとを合成して画像を形成する画像
合成装置に関する。
［従来の技術］ 従来、画像合成可能な装置として、計算機を使った画
像処理システムがあり、ドラムスキヤナー等の画像読取
装置から読取った画像を一時磁気デイスク等の大容量記
憶媒体に格納し、デイスプレイ上に圧縮した情報を表示
して文字や図形等と合成作業をした後、ドラムスキヤナ
ー等の画像出力装置でフイルムや紙に出力する。さらに
これら装置はアドビ社のポストスクリプト等のページ記
述言語のインタープリタを搭載可能でコードデータから
の画像生成も可能である。
［発明が解決しようとしている問題点］ しかしながら上記従来例の印刷用画像処理システムで
は入・出力・装置が大型で高価なドラムスキヤナを使っ
ている上に大容量のデイスク等の記憶媒体を必要とし
た。
［問題点を解決するための手段］ 本発明は以上の点に鑑みてなされたもので、原稿画像
を読取り画像データを出力する読取手段と、文字、図形
等を表わすページ記述言語の解釈を行なうインタプリタ
手段と、前記読取手段により読取られる原稿画像とイン
タプリタ手段からの文字、図形等を合成する合成手段と
を有し、前記ページ記述言語に前記読取手段を示すコマ
ンドを含め、前記インタプリタ手段によりページ記述言
語を解釈して文字、図形等のイメージデータに変換する
際に、前記コマンドの解釈に応じて前記画像読取り手段
から画像データを直接読み込み前記合成手段により画像
合成を行なう画像合成装置を提供するものである。
［実施例］ 第１図は本発明を適用した画像合成装置の実施例構成
を示す図であり、１は画像合成装置を制御するためのCP
U、２はページ記述言語（PDL）プログラムのインタプリ
タ10を含むプログラム用ROM、３はPDL用基本辞書やフオ
ントROMの領域11を含むROM、４はPDLオブジエクトの格
納領域12を有するRAM、５はPDLオブジエクトにもとづき
図形や文字や２値画像や、画像読取装置８から読取った
多値画像データをページメモリ６に展開したり、画像読
取装置８を制御したりするためのマツピングドライバ、
６は２値、多値画像データを少なくとも一画面分記憶可
能なページメモリ、７はページメモリ６に展開された画
像データを画像出力装置９に出力するためのデバイスド
ライバ、８はCCDイメージセンサ等を用いて反射原稿や
透過原稿などから多値画像を読み取るための画像読取装
置、９は入力画像データに基づき記録材上に多値画像を
記録するレーザビームプリンタの如くの画像出力装置、
15はi/oインターフエース、20はCPU1のバスである。
また21は画像読取装置８から出力される多値画像デー
タ、22は画像読取装置８を制御するための制御線、23は
画像読取装置８からの画像データを画像出力装置９に直
接供給し原稿画像の単なる複写を行なう際の画像データ
の流を示したものである。
この構成によりページ記述言語において画像をフォン
ト等の一種として扱い、画像データそのものは直接記述
せずに画像入力装置あるいは画像の名前として記述す
る。そして、ページ記述言語を解釈・実行可能なインタ
プリタを用いてページ記述言語のプログラムをイメージ
に展開する際に、フオントとして扱われた画像データを
外部画像入力装置あるいは複写機リーダー部より入力し
ながら、イメージ記述言語で表わされたコード情報のデ
ータと画像信号とを合成可能としたものである。
第２図は第１図示の画像合成装置の動作手順を示すフ
ローチヤート図である。
上記構成において、CPU1を含む不図示のPDLプログラ
ム作成手段により作成したPDLプログラムあるいはi/o15
を介してホストコンピュータ等の外部機器より入力され
るPDLプログラムがRAM4に格納される（ステツプ31,4
7）。次に、ROM2に書き込まれているPDLプログラムを解
釈・実行するためのインタプリタ10を起動する（ステツ
プS32）。
これにより、インタプリタ10はPDLプログラムの内容
を解釈する（ステツプ33）。そして“文字”であれば
（ステツプ34）、ROM3の中に格納されたフオントROM11
を参照し（ステツプ35）、更にマツピングドライバ５を
制御してページメモリ６に文字のイメージを展開する
（ステツプ36）。
また、“名前”であれば（ステツプ40）、ROM3の中に
格納された基本辞書あるいはRAM4の中にあらかじめ格納
しておいた拡張された辞書を参照し（ステツプ41）、オ
ブジエクトを作り、マツピングドライバ５でページメモ
リ６に展開していく（ステツプ42）。
その際、画像読取り装置８あるいは画像読取装置８で
読み取る画像の名前等の記述がプログラム中に存在する
と（ステツプ37）、インタプリタ10はマツピングドライ
バ５に対し画像読取装置８を起動し（ステップ38）、画
像を読み込むよう指令を出し、これによりマツピングド
ライバ５は当該画像を読み込む際の領域等の情報にもと
づいて画像読取装置８から読み取った画像データをペー
ジメモリ６に書き込み（ステツプ39）、文字画像と原稿
画像との合成画像をページメモリ６上で作成する。
ページメモリ６内にイメージが完成した後、PDLプロ
グラムから画像出力が指令されると（ステツプ43）、イ
ンタプリタ10はそれを解釈し、デバイスドライバ７に対
し画像出力を指令し、デバイスドライバ７はページメモ
リ６の内容を画像出力装置９に出力し合成画像が形成さ
れる（ステツプ44）。
一方、単に多値画像を複写するには23の経路で画像入
力装置８からの画像データをデバイスドライバ７を介し
て画像出力装置９に出力することにより高速に複写可能
となる。
以上説明したように、本実施例構成では、多値画像デ
ータを画像名や画像読取装置の名前等の画像の属性で記
述し、実際の多値画像データはページ記述プログラムを
展開するときに読み込むようにしたので、高速かつ容易
に多値画像をページ記述言語のプログラムで記述された
文字画像等と合成し、出力することができるようになっ
た。
また、この方法をとればページ記述言語を大きく変え
る必要がない上に、画像データそのものの記述をしなく
てすむ。
［他の実施例］ 第３図は他の実施例構成を示す図で、第１図と同じ番
号のものは同様の機能を有する。そして、16は多値画像
用のイメージメモリ、24,25は多値画像のデータ線、26
は２値画像用のページメモリである。
第３図示構成の動作は基本的には第１図の実施例とほ
ぼ同じであるが、画像読取装置８から読取られた画像デ
ータはマツピングドライバ５を介さずにイメージメモリ
16に直接送られ、画像出力装置９の動作に同期してデバ
イスドライバ７を介してイメージメモリ16から画像出力
装置９に送る。その際、画像読取装置８の稼動中に画像
出力装置９を起動すればイメージメモリ26は全画面分持
たなくても済み、第１図の実施例に比べメモリの節約が
できる。
［発明の効果］ 以上説明した様に、本発明によると、ページ記述言語
によって表わされた文字，図形等と合成すべき原稿画像
データを、ページ記述言語に含ませたコマンドに従って
読み込むので、文字，図形等と原稿画像との合成を高速
かつ容易に実行可能となる。

Claims (1)

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】原稿画像を読取り画像データを出力する読
    取手段と、文字、図形等を表わすページ記述言語の解釈
    を行なうインタプリタ手段と、前記読取手段により読取
    られる原稿画像とインタプリタ手段からの文字、図形等
    を合成する合成手段とを有し、前記ページ記述言語に前
    記読取手段を示すコマンドを含め、前記インタプリタ手
    段によりページ記述言語を解釈して文字、図形等のイメ
    ージデータに変換する際に、前記コマンドの解釈に応じ
    て前記画像読取手段から画像データを直接読み込み前記
    合成手段により画像合成を行なうことを特徴とする画像
    合成装置。
