Abstract
Description
正極活物質としてのLiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2と、Li3PO4と、バインダとしてのポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVdF)と、導電材としてのアセチレンブラック(AB)とを、N−メチル−2−ピロリドン(NMP)中で混合して、正極活物質層形成用ペーストを調製した。また、無機フィラーとしてのベーマイトと、バインダとしてのポリアクリル酸とを、NMP中で混合して、絶縁層形成用ペーストを調製した。このとき、正極活物質層形成用ペーストの粘度V1に対する絶縁層形成用ペーストの粘度V2の比(V2/V1)を、表1に記載のように調整した。
正極(例1〜5、比較例1、2)を幅方向に沿って切断し、試験片を切り出した。試験片を包埋研磨した後、走査電子顕微鏡(SEM:Scanning Electron Microscope)を用いて、絶縁層および正極活物質層の断面を観察し、観察画像(観察倍率:500〜3000倍)を得た。このとき、加速電圧を10kVとすることで、コントラストが明瞭な画像が得られた。その結果、例1〜5の正極は、図3に示す構成を有していた。すなわち、例1〜5では、正極20が、正極集電体露出部22aと正極活物質層24と絶縁層26と積重部Bとを備えていた。また、比較例1の正極は、傾斜面S1が絶縁層26で覆われている一方、傾斜面S2は正極集電体22と接していた。すなわち、絶縁層26が、正極集電体22と正極活物質層24の傾斜面S2との間に入り込んでいなかった。比較例1の正極は、幅Lb=0であった。また、比較例2の正極は、傾斜面S2が絶縁層26で覆われている一方、傾斜面S1の上方には絶縁層26が重ねられていなかった。すなわち、傾斜面S1が表面に露出していた。
次に、正極(例1〜5)の上記観察画像から、幅Lbを求めた。具体的には、絶縁層のY2方向の端と正極活物質層のY1方向の端との間の距離を幅Lbとして計測した。なお、幅Lbは、長手方向のバラつきを加味して、各例につき3〜5箇所で測定し、その算術平均値を求めた。例1〜5において、幅Lbは、20〜2000μmの範囲だった。例1〜4において、幅Lbは、20〜1000μmの範囲だった。そして、幅Lbと幅Laとから、Lb/Laを算出した。結果を表1に示す。
負極活物質としての天然黒鉛(C)と、バインダとしてのスチレンブタジエンゴム(SBR)と、増粘剤としてのカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)とを、イオン交換水中で混合して、負極活物質層形成用ペーストを調製した。次に、負極集電体として、帯状の銅箔を用意した。そして、負極ペーストを、銅箔に塗工し、乾燥した後、プレスした。このようにして、負極活物質層を備えた負極を作製した。
上記作製したリチウムイオン二次電池に対して、25℃において、電圧が4.2Vとなるまで1/3Cのレートで定電流充電した後、電流が1/50Cとなるまで定電圧充電した。次に、電圧が3.0Vとなるまで1/3Cのレートで定電流放電した。なお、「1C」とは、正極活物質の理論容量から予測される電池容量(Ah)を1時間で充電できる電流値を意味する。
上記充放電を1サイクルとして、1000サイクルの充放電を繰り返した。そして、充放電後のリチウムイオン二次電池を解体して、負極を取り出した。次に、正極の積重部Bと対向していた部分を100mm×100mmの大きさに分取した。次に、分取した負極から負極集電体を剥がし、負極活物質層を酸性溶剤に分散させた。酸性溶剤としては、塩酸と硝酸との混酸に、過酸化水素を添加したものを使用した。そして、ICP(Inductively Coupled Plasma)分析により、分散液に含まれるMnを定量した。結果を表1に示す。なお、表1には、比較例1のMn量を100としたときの相対値を表している。表1のMn量は、数値が小さいほどMnの析出が抑えられていることを表している。
上記サイクル試験後のリチウムイオン二次電池を、−6.7℃の恒温槽に設置し、十分温度を安定させた。次に、−6.7℃の環境下において、さらにハイレート充放電を300サイクル繰り返した。ハイレート充放電の条件は、200Aの定電流で5秒間充電した後、200Aの定電流で5秒間放電するものとした。そして、ハイレートサイクルの前後の電池容量から、容量維持率を求めた。結果を表1に示す。なお、表1には、比較例1の容量維持率を100としたときの相対値を表している。表1の容量維持率は、数値が大きいほどハイレートサイクル後の容量劣化が小さく、Li析出耐性に優れていることを表している。
上記初期充放電後のリチウムイオン二次電池を解体して、正極を取り出した。これをLi金属と対向させて、非水電解液とともにラミネート製の袋状容器に収容し、ラミネートセルを構築した。次に、このラミネートセルを、−30℃の恒温槽に設置し、十分温度を安定させた。次に、−30℃の環境下において、ラミネートセルのIV抵抗を測定した。結果を表1に示す。なお、表1には、比較例1のIV抵抗を100としたときの相対値を表している。表1の正極抵抗は、数値が小さいほど低抵抗であることを表している。

正極活物質を含み、前記正極集電体が露出した部分を残して前記正極集電体上に形成された正極活物質層と、
無機フィラーを含み、前記正極集電体が露出した部分と前記正極活物質層との境界部に形成された絶縁層と、
を備え、
前記正極活物質層は、本体部と、前記本体部よりも前記正極集電体が露出した部分の近くに設けられ、前記本体部よりも厚みが薄い端部と、を備え、
前記絶縁層は、前記正極集電体と前記端部との間に入り込むと共に、前記端部を覆うように形成されており、
前記正極活物質層の幅をLaとし、前記正極集電体と前記端部との間に入り込んだ前記絶縁層の幅をLbとしたときに、前記幅Laと前記幅Lbとは、次の式(1):
0.02×10−2≦(Lb/La)≦2.1×10−2;
を満たす、非水電解質二次電池。 - 前記幅Laと前記幅Lbとが、次の式(2):
