Description
(a)炭化水素置換基類、つまり、脂肪族(例えば、アルキルまたはアルケニル)、脂環式(例えば、シクロアルキル、シクロアルケニル)置換基;ならびに芳香族、脂肪族および脂環式置換芳香族の置換基のほか、環が分子の別の部分を通って完成する(例えば、2つの置換基が一緒になって脂環式残基を形成する)環状置換基;
(b)置換炭化水素置換基類、つまり、非炭化水素基を含有する置換基であって、本開示の文脈において、主として炭化水素置換基(例えば、ハロ(特に、クロロおよびフルオロ)、ヒドロキシアルキルメルカプト、ニトロ、ニトロソ、アミノ、アルキルアミノ、およびスルホキシ)を改変しない置換基;ならびに
(C)ヘテロ置換基類、つまり、主として炭化水素の特徴を有する一方、本開示の文脈において、環中または鎖中に炭素以外のものを含み、さもなければ、炭素原子を含む置換基。ヘテロ原子としては、硫黄、酸素および窒素が挙げられ、ピリジル、フリル、チエニルおよびイミダゾリルのような置換基が包含される。全般的に言えば、ヒドロカルビル基中には、非炭化水素置換基が炭素原子10個ごとに2以下(例えば、1以下)の個数だけ存在する。ただし、典型的には、ヒドロカルビル基中に非炭化水素置換基はまったく存在しない。
潤滑油組成物は、1種以上の過塩基性洗剤を単独で、または1種以上の低塩基性/中性洗剤と組み合わせて含む。好適な洗剤基剤としては、石炭酸塩、硫黄含有の石炭酸塩、スルホン酸塩、カリキサレート(calixarate)、サリキサレート(salixarates)、サリチル酸塩、カルボン酸、リン酸、モノおよび/もしくはジチオリン酸、アルキルフェノール、硫黄結合アルキルフェノール化合物、またはメチレン架橋フェノールが挙げられる。好適な洗剤およびこれらの調製方法は、多数の特許公報、例えば、米国特許第7,732,390号および同特許において引用されている文献により詳述されている。洗剤基剤は、アルカリ金属またはアルカリ土類金属、例えば、限定されないが、カルシウム、マグネシウム、カリウム、ナトリウム、リチウム、バリウム、またはこれらの混合物と塩を形成する場合がある。幾つかの実施形態において、洗剤は、バリウムフリーである。好適な洗剤としては、石油スルホン酸のアルカリ金属塩またはアルカリ土類金属塩のほか、長鎖モノまたはジ−アルキルアリールスルホン酸においてアリール基がベンジル、トリルおよびキシリルであるものを、挙げることができる。好適な更なる洗剤の例としては、限定されないが、石炭酸カルシウム、カルシウム硫黄含有の石炭酸塩、スルホン酸カルシウム、カルシウムカリキサレート(calixarate)、カルシウムサリキサレート(salixarates)、サリチル酸カルシウム、カルシウムカルボン酸、カルシウムリン酸、カルシウムモノおよび/もしくはジチオリン酸、カルシウムアルキルフェノール、カルシウム硫黄結合アルキルフェノール化合物、カルシウムメチレン架橋フェノール、石炭酸マグネシウム、マグネシウム硫黄含有の石炭酸塩、マグネシウムスルホン酸塩、マグネシウムカリキサレート(calixarate)、マグネシウムサリキサレート(salixarates)、サリチル酸マグネシウム、マグネシウムカルボン酸、マグネシウムリン酸、マグネシウムモノおよび/もしくはジチオリン酸、マグネシウムアルキルフェノール、マグネシウム硫黄結合アルキルフェノール化合物、マグネシウムメチレン架橋フェノール、石炭酸ナトリウム、ナトリウム硫黄含有の石炭酸塩、ナトリウムスルホン酸塩、ナトリウムカリキサレート(calixarate)、ナトリウムサリキサレート(salixarate)、サリチル酸ナトリウム、ナトリウムカルボン酸、ナトリウムリン酸、ナトリウムモノおよび/もしくはジチオリン酸、ナトリウムアルキルフェノール、ナトリウム硫黄結合アルキルフェノール化合物、またはナトリウム−メチレン架橋フェノール類が挙げられる。
潤滑組成物はまた、1種以上の油溶性チタン化合物を含む場合がある。油溶性チタン化合物は、耐摩耗剤、摩擦調整剤、抗酸化剤、堆積制御添加剤として作用する場合もあれば、あるいはこれらの作用のうちの2つ以上を有する場合もある。或る実施形態では、潤滑油組成物中にチタンを配合すると、予期せずLSPIイベント数が減少し、結果としてLSPI比率が低減する。潤滑油組成物中のカルシウム量を減らしてLSPIイベントを低減させた場合、このLSPIイベントの低減を、チタンを潤滑油組成物中に使用することによって、更に増進できる。
また、潤滑組成物は、1種以上のタングステン含有化合物を含む場合がある。タングステン含有化合物は、好ましくは油溶性であり、耐摩耗剤、摩擦調整剤、抗酸化剤、堆積制御添加剤として作用する場合もあれば、あるいはこれらの作用のうちの2つ以上を有する場合もある。或る実施形態では、潤滑油組成物中にタングステンを配合すると、予期せずLSPIイベント数が減少し、結果としてLSPI比率が低減する。潤滑油組成物中のカルシウム量を減らしてLSPIイベントを低減させた場合、このLSPIイベントの低減を、タングステンを潤滑油組成物中に使用することによって、更に増進できる。
本明細書における潤滑油組成物中に使用される基油は、American Petroleum Institute (API) Base Oil Interchangeability Guidelinesにおいて指定されている群I〜V中の基油のいずれかから選択される場合がある。5つの基油群は、次のとおりである。
また、本明細書における潤滑油組成物には、任意選択的に、1種以上の抗酸化剤を配合してもよい。抗酸化剤化合物は公知されており、例えば、石炭酸塩、硫化石炭酸塩、硫化オレフィン、リン硫化テルペン、硫化エステル、芳香族アミン、アルキレート化ジフェニルアミン(例えば、ノニルジフェニルアミン、ジノニルジフェニルアミン、オクチルジフェニルアミン、ジオクチルジフェニルアミン)、フェニルαナフチルアミン、アルキレート化フェニルαナフチルアミン、ヒンダード非芳香族アミン、フェノール、ヒンダードフェノール、油溶性モリブデン化合物、巨大分子抗酸化剤、またはこれらの混合物が挙げられる。抗酸化剤化合物は、単独で使用される場合もあれば、複数組み合わせて使用される場合もある。
また、本明細書における潤滑油組成物には、任意選択的に、1種以上の耐摩耗剤を配合してもよい。好適な耐摩耗剤の例としては、限定されないが、金属チオリン酸塩;金属ジアルキルジチオリン酸塩;リン酸エステルまたはその塩;リン酸エステル;亜リン酸塩;リン含有のカルボン酸エステル、エーテルまたはアミド;硫化オレフィン;チオカルバミン酸エステル、アルキレン結合チオカルバミン酸塩、およびビス(S−アルキルジチオカルバミル)ジスルフィドなどのチオカルバメート含有化合物;ならびにそれらの混合物が挙げられる。好適な耐摩耗剤は、ジチオカルバミン酸モリブデンである場合がある。リン含有の耐摩耗剤は、欧州特許第612,839号においてより完全に記載されている。ジチオリン酸ジアルキル塩の中に含有される金属は、アルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、アルミニウム、鉛、スズ、モリブデン、マンガン、ニッケル、銅、チタン、または亜鉛である場合がある。有用な耐摩耗剤は、ジアルキルジチオリン酸亜鉛である場合がある。
本明細書における潤滑油組成物には、任意選択的に、1種以上のホウ素含有化合物を配合してもよい。
潤滑油組成物は、任意選択的に1種以上の分散剤またはこれらの混合物を更に含みうる。分散剤は多くの場合、潤滑油組成物中に混合される前には灰形成金属を含有せず、潤滑剤に添加された場合でも通常は灰分の増加にまったく寄与しないことから、無灰分型の分散剤として知られる。無灰分型の分散剤は、比較的高分子量の炭化水素鎖に極性基が付着されることを特徴とする。典型的な無灰分型の分散剤としては、N置換長鎖アルケニルコハク酸イミドが挙げられる。N置換長鎖アルケニルコハク酸イミドの例としては、ポリイソブチレン置換基の数平均分子量が約350〜約50,000、または約5,000以下、または約3,000以下の範囲であるポリイソブチレンスクシンイミドが挙げられる。スクシンイミド分散剤およびこれらの調製物は、例えば、米国特許第7,897,696号または米国特許第4,234,435号に開示されている。ポリオレフィンは、約2〜約16個、または約2〜約8個、または約2〜約6個の炭素原子を含有する重合性モノマーから調製される場合がある。スクシンイミド分散剤は、典型的にはポリアミンから形成されたイミドであり、その典型例はポリ(エチレンアミン)である。
また、本明細書における潤滑油組成物には、任意選択的に、1種以上の摩擦調整剤を配合してもよい。好適な摩擦調整剤は、金属含有および金属フリーの摩擦調整剤を含む場合があり、限定されないが、イミダゾリン、アミド、アミン、スクシンイミド、アルコキシル化アミン、アルコキシル化エーテルアミン、酸化アミン、アミドアミン、ニトリル、ベタイン、第四級アミン、イミン、アミン、アミノグアニジン、アルカノールアミド、ホスホン酸塩、金属含有化合物;グリセロールエステル、硫化脂肪化合物およびオレフィン類;ヒマワリ油;他の天然植物油または動物油;カルボキシル酸;ポリオールのエステルまたは部分エステル;ならびに1種以上の脂肪族または芳香族カルボン酸などを挙げることができる。
また、本明細書における潤滑油組成物には、任意選択的に、1種以上のモリブデン含有化合物を配合してもよい。油溶性モリブデン化合物は、耐摩耗剤、抗酸化剤、摩擦調整剤、またはこれらの混合物の機能性能を有する場合がある。油溶性モリブデン化合物としては、ジチオカルバミン酸モリブデン、モリブデンジチオリン酸ジアルキル、ジチオリン酸モリブデン、モリブデン化合物のアミン塩、モリブデンザンテート(xanthates)、モリブデンチオザンテート(thioxanthates)、硫化モリブデン、カルボン酸モリブデン、モリブデンアルコキシド、三核オルガノモリブデン化合物、および/またはこれらの混合物を挙げることができる。硫化モリブデンとしては、二硫化モリブデンが挙げられる。二硫化モリブデンは、安定な分散性の形態である場合がある。一実施形態において、油溶性モリブデン化合物は、ジチオカルバミン酸モリブデン、モリブデンジチオリン酸ジアルキル、モリブデン化合物のアミン塩、およびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択することが可能である。一実施形態において、油溶性モリブデン化合物は、ジチオカルバミン酸モリブデンである場合がある。
別の実施形態において、油溶性化合物は、その他の遷移金属含有化合物または半金属(metalloid)である場合がある。その他の遷移金属としては、限定されないが、バナジウム、銅、亜鉛、ジルコニウム、モリブデン、タンタル、タングステン、およびこれらに類するものを挙げることができる。好適なメタロイドとしては、限定されないが、ホウ素、シリコン、アンチモン、テルルおよびこれらに類するものが挙げられる。

潤滑流体に必要とされる1種以上の機能性を遂行する目的で、他の添加剤を選択することもできる。更に、上述の添加剤のうちの1種以上は、多機能性である場合があり、本明細書に記載されている機能以外の機能をも提供しうる。

潤滑油組成物中のチタン配合量をさまざまに変え、それによってLSPI比率に対して及ぶ影響について試験した。過塩基性カルシウム洗剤(「OB」)とチタン含有化合物との混合物は、塩基性調合物を使用して試験された。上述したとおり、調合物R−1は、約2,400重量ppmのCaを潤滑油組成物に供給する量の過塩基性カルシウム洗剤を、唯一の洗剤として含有していた。調合物R−2は、わずかに多くのカルシウムのほか、100ppmのチタンをも含有していた。
この実施例では、さまざまな供給源からのチタンを潤滑油組成物中に取り入れことによる効果を特定した。先に実施例1で述べた調合物R−1およびC−1を、比較目的に使用した。加えて、この実施例2では、本発明の実施例I−2もまた実施例1と同じにした。実施例2、I−2、I−5、およびI−6の実験的組成物の各々に、約1,575重量ppmのCaを各潤滑油組成物に供給する量の過塩基性カルシウム洗剤を配合した。調合物I−2には、チタン供給源としてオルトチタン酸テトライソプロピルとネオデカン酸との反応生成物を使用した。調合物I−5には、チタン供給源としてオルトチタン酸テトライソプロピルを使用した。調合物I−6には、チタン供給源としてチタン含有分散剤を使用した。結果を表5に示す。
この実施例では、過塩基性カルシウム洗剤と低塩基性/中性(「LB/N」)カルシウム洗剤との両方を含んだ組成物に、チタンを添加したことによる効果を特定した。この実施例では、先に実施例1〜2で述べた調合物R−1、R−2、およびC−1をいずれも使用した。また、調合物C−3も含めて、チタンを添加せずに過塩基性洗剤と低塩基性/中性カルシウム洗剤とを組み合わせて使用したことによる効果を試験した。
潤滑油組成物中のタングステンの配合量をさまざまに変え、それによってLSPI比率に対して及ぶ影響について試験した。タングステン含有化合物を添加して塩基性調合物を試験した。上述したとおり、調合物R−1は、約2,400重量ppmのCaを潤滑油組成物に供給する量の過塩基性カルシウム洗剤を、唯一の洗剤として含有していた。比較調合物C−1は、1,600重量ppmのCaを潤滑油組成物に供給する量の過塩基性カルシウム洗剤を、唯一の洗剤として含有していた。比較調合物C−2は、1,600ppmのカルシウムを潤滑油組成物に送達する量の過塩基性スルホン酸カルシウムと、約100重量ppmのタングステンを潤滑油組成物に供給する量の油溶性タングステン含有化合物(VanLube(商標)W−324;ヴァンダービルトケミカルズ、LLCから入手可能)とを含有していた。
Claims (23)
- 50重量%超の潤滑粘度の基油と、
ASTM D−2896の方法で測定された全塩基価が225mg KOH/gを超え且つ前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして900重量ppm超〜2,400重量ppm未満のカルシウムを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤と、
10重量ppm〜3,000重量ppmのチタンを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上のチタン含有化合物、および/または125重量ppm〜3,000重量ppmのタングステンを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上のタングステン含有化合物(両方とも前記潤滑油組成物の総重量基準)を含んだ、低速早期着火を低減するための添加剤組成物と、
を含有してなる潤滑油組成物であって、
前記添加剤組成物は、強化型内燃エンジンにおいて前記潤滑油組成物を注油して低速早期着火イベントを低減する場合の方が、前記同じエンジンにおいて前記1種以上のチタン含有化合物を配合せず且つ/または前記1種以上のタングステン含有化合物を配合しない同じ潤滑油組成物を注油して幾つかの低速早期着火イベントを低減する場合と比べて相対的に効果を奏する、潤滑油組成物。 - 前記1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤が、過塩基性スルホン酸カルシウム洗剤、過塩基性石炭酸カルシウム洗剤、および過塩基性サリチル酸カルシウム洗剤から選択される化合物を含む、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤が、前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして約1,100ppm〜約1,800重量ppm未満のカルシウムを前記潤滑油組成物に提供する、請求項2に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記潤滑油組成物が、1種以上のチタン含有化合物を含む、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記1種以上のチタン含有化合物は、オルトチタン酸テトライソプロピルとネオデカン酸との反応生成物;オルトチタン酸テトライソプロピル;チタン含有分散剤およびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項4の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記1種以上のチタン含有化合物が、前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして約25重量ppm〜約1,000重量ppmのチタンを前記潤滑油組成物に提供する、請求項4の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記潤滑油組成物が、1種以上のタングステン含有化合物を含む、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記1種以上のタングステン含有化合物が、アルキル置換またはアリール置換タングステン酸アンモニウムであり、前記アルキル基およびアリール基がそれぞれ6〜30個の炭素原子を有する、請求項7に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 摩擦調整剤、耐摩耗剤、分散剤、抗酸化剤、および粘度指数向上剤からなる群から選択される1種以上の成分を更に含む、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記50重量%超の基油が、第II族、第III族、第IV族、第V族基油、および前記基油のうちの2種以上の組み合わせからなる群から選択され、且つ前記50重量%超の基油は、前記組成物中に添加剤成分または粘度指数向上剤を供給することによって生ずる希釈油以外の残部である、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記潤滑油組成物の硫酸塩灰分の含有量が、1.0重量%未満である、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 少なくとも0.2重量%の低塩基性/中性洗剤を更に含み、前記洗剤はASTM D−2896の方法で測定された全塩基価が最高で175mg KOH/gである、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 前記低塩基性/中性洗剤が、スルホン酸カルシウム洗剤を含む、請求項11に記載の潤滑組成物(lubricating composition)。
- 前記低速早期着火イベントが、前記エンジンを1分間当たり2000回転数且つ正味平均有効圧18,000kPaで作動させた場合の、25,000エンジンサイクル中の低速早期着火のカウントである、請求項1に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 強化型内燃エンジンにおける低速早期着火イベントを低減する方法であって、
強化型内燃エンジンに潤滑油組成物を注油する工程において、前記潤滑油組成物が
50重量%超の潤滑粘度の基油と、
添加剤組成物であって
ASTM D−2896の方法で測定された全塩基価が225mg KOH/gを超え且つ前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして900重量ppm超〜2,400重量ppm未満のカルシウムを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤と、
10重量ppm〜3,000重量ppmのチタンを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上のチタン含有化合物、および/または125重量ppm〜3,000重量ppmのタングステンを前記潤滑油組成物に供給するのに十分な量の1種以上のタングステン含有化合物(両方とも前記潤滑油組成物の総重量基準)を含んだ添加剤組成物と
を含む、注油工程と、
前記潤滑油組成物を注油した前記エンジンを作動させて、それにより、前記潤滑油組成物を注油した前記強化型内燃エンジンにおける前記低速早期着火イベントが、前記同じエンジンにおいて前記1種以上のチタン含有化合物を配合せず且つ/または1種以上のタングステン含有化合物を配合しない同じ潤滑油組成物を注油して幾つかの低速早期着火イベントを低減する場合に比べて相対的に低減する工程と、を含む方法。 - 潤滑剤組成物の硫酸塩灰分の含有量が、約1.0重量%未満である、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記低速早期着火イベントが、前記エンジンを1分間当たり2,000回転数且つ正味平均有効圧18,000kPaで作動させた場合の、25,000エンジンサイクル中の低速早期着火のカウントである、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤が、過塩基性スルホン酸カルシウム洗剤、過塩基性石炭酸カルシウム洗剤および過塩基性サリチル酸カルシウム洗剤から選択される化合物を含み、前記1種以上の過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤が、前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして約1,100〜約1,800重量ppm未満のカルシウムを前記潤滑油組成物に供給する、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記潤滑油組成物が、1種以上のチタン含有化合物を含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記潤滑油組成物が、1種以上のタングステン含有化合物を含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記添加剤組成物が、ASTM D−2896の方法で測定された全塩基価が最高で175mg KOH/gである低塩基性/中性洗剤を更に含み、前記低塩基性/中性洗剤がカルシウム含有洗剤を含み、且つ前記過塩基性カルシウム含有洗剤および前記低塩基性/中性洗剤から供給されるカルシウムの総量が、前記潤滑油組成物の総重量を基準にして1,100重量ppm超〜2,400重量ppm未満の範囲であり、且つ前記低塩基性/中性洗剤が前記潤滑油組成物の少なくとも0.2重量%を占める、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記注油工程にて、ターボチャージャーもしくはスーパーチャージャーを備える火花点火式の直噴エンジンまたはポート燃料注入式の内燃エンジンの燃焼室またはシリンダー壁に注油する、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記潤滑油を注油した前記内燃エンジンにおいて低速早期着火イベントを測定する工程を更に含む、請求項17に記載の方法。
