Abstract
Description
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の表示装置について図1〜図11を用いて説明する。
図1(A)に、表示パネル100の上面図を示す。
図2(A)に、表示装置12の上面図を示す。図2(A)に示す表示装置12は、図1(A)に示す表示パネル100を一方向(横方向)に3つ有する。図2(A)では、各表示パネルがFPCと電気的に接続されている例を示す。

本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の表示装置に用いることができる発光素子及び発光パネルについて図12及び図13を用いて説明する。
まず、発光素子の基本的な構造について説明する。図12(A)には、一対の電極間にEL層を有する発光素子を示す。具体的には、第1の電極1201と第2の電極1202との間にEL層1203が挟まれた構造(シングル構造)を有する。EL層1203は少なくとも発光層を有する。
次に、発光素子の具体的な構造及び作製方法について説明する。ここでは、図12(B)に示すタンデム構造を有し、マイクロキャビティ構造を備えた発光素子について図12(D)を用いて説明する。図12(D)に示す発光素子は、第1の電極1201を反射電極として形成し、第2の電極1202を半透過・半反射電極として形成する。従って、所望の導電性材料を単数または複数用い、単層または積層して形成することができる。なお、第2の電極1202は、EL層1203bを形成した後、上記と同様に材料を選択して形成する。また、これらの電極の作製には、スパッタ法や真空蒸着法を用いることができる。
第1の電極1201及び第2の電極1202を形成する材料としては、上述した両電極の機能が満たせるのであれば、以下に示す材料を適宜組み合わせて用いることができる。例えば、金属、合金、電気伝導性化合物、及びこれらの混合物などを適宜用いることができる。具体的には、In−Sn酸化物(ITOともいう)、In−Si−Sn酸化物(ITSOともいう)、In−Zn酸化物、In−W−Zn酸化物が挙げられる。その他、アルミニウム(Al)、チタン(Ti)、クロム(Cr)、マンガン(Mn)、鉄(Fe)、コバルト(Co)、ニッケル(Ni)、銅(Cu)、ガリウム(Ga)、亜鉛(Zn)、インジウム(In)、スズ(Sn)、モリブデン(Mo)、タンタル(Ta)、タングステン(W)、パラジウム(Pd)、金(Au)、白金(Pt)、銀(Ag)、イットリウム(Y)、ネオジム(Nd)などの金属、及びこれらを適宜組み合わせて含む合金を用いることもできる。その他、上記例示のない元素周期表の第1族または第2族に属する元素(例えば、リチウム(Li)、セシウム(Cs)、カルシウム(Ca)、ストロンチウム(Sr))、ユウロピウム(Eu)、イッテルビウム(Yb)などの希土類金属及びこれらを適宜組み合わせて含む合金、その他グラフェン等を用いることができる。
正孔注入層(1211、1211a、1211b)は、陽極である第1の電極1201または電荷発生層1204からEL層(1203、1203a、1203b)に正孔(ホール)を注入する層であり、正孔注入性の高い材料を含む層である。
発光層(1213、1213a、1213b)は、発光物質を含む層である。なお、発光物質としては、青色、紫色、青紫色、緑色、黄緑色、黄色、橙色、赤色などの発光色を呈する物質を適宜用いる。また、複数の発光層(1213a、1213b)に異なる発光物質を用いることにより異なる発光色を呈する構成(例えば、補色の関係にある発光色を組み合わせて得られる白色発光)とすることができる。さらに、一つの発光層が異なる発光物質を有する積層構造であってもよい。
電子輸送層(1214、1214a、1214b)は、電子注入層(1215、1215a、1215b)によって、第2の電極1202から注入された電子を発光層(1213、1213a、1213b)に輸送する層である。なお、電子輸送層(1214、1214a、1214b)は、電子輸送性材料を含む層である。電子輸送層(1214、1214a、1214b)に用いる電子輸送性材料は、1×10−6cm2/Vs以上の電子移動度を有する物質が好ましい。なお、正孔よりも電子の輸送性の高い物質であれば、これら以外のものを用いることができる。
電子注入層(1215、1215a、1215b)は、電子注入性の高い物質を含む層である。電子注入層(1215、1215a、1215b)には、フッ化リチウム(LiF)、フッ化セシウム(CsF)、フッ化カルシウム(CaF2)、リチウム酸化物(LiOx)等のようなアルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、またはそれらの化合物を用いることができる。また、フッ化エルビウム(ErF3)のような希土類金属化合物を用いることができる。また、電子注入層(1215、1215a、1215b)にエレクトライドを用いてもよい。エレクトライドとしては、例えば、カルシウムとアルミニウムの混合酸化物に電子を高濃度添加した物質等が挙げられる。なお、上述した電子輸送層(1214、1214a、1214b)を構成する物質を用いることもできる。
図12(D)に示す発光素子において、電荷発生層1204は、第1の電極(陽極)1201と第2の電極(陰極)1202との間に電圧を印加したときに、EL層1203aに電子を注入し、EL層1203bに正孔を注入する機能を有する。なお、電荷発生層1204は、正孔輸送性材料に電子受容体(アクセプター)が添加された構成であっても、電子輸送性材料に電子供与体(ドナー)が添加された構成であってもよい。また、これらの両方の構成が積層されていてもよい。なお、上述した材料を用いて電荷発生層1204を形成することにより、EL層が積層された場合における駆動電圧の上昇を抑制することができる。
図13(A)に、本発明の一態様の発光パネルを示す。図13(A)に示す発光パネルは、第1の基板1301上のトランジスタ(FET)1302と発光素子(1303R、1303G、1303B、1303W)が電気的に接続されてなるアクティブマトリクス型の発光パネルであり、複数の発光素子(1303R、1303G、1303B、1303W)は、共通のEL層1304を有し、また、各発光素子の発光色に応じて、各発光素子の電極間の光学距離が調整されたマイクロキャビティ構造を有する。また、EL層1304から得られた発光が第2の基板1305に形成されたカラーフィルタ(1306R、1306G、1306B)を介して射出されるトップエミッション型の発光パネルである。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の表示装置に用いることができる表示パネルについて、図を用いて説明する。

本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の電子機器及び照明装置について図を用いて説明する。
本実施例で示す発光素子は、図25に示すように基板1900上に第1の電極1901が形成され、第1の電極1901上にEL層1902が形成され、EL層1902上に第2の電極1903が形成された構造を有する。EL層1902は、第1の電極1901側から正孔注入層1911、正孔輸送層1912、発光層1913、電子輸送層1914、電子注入層1915が順次積層された構造を有する。なお、本実施例で説明する発光素子1は、主に赤色発光を呈する発光素子であり、発光素子1(R)と示す。また、発光素子2は、主に緑色発光を呈する発光素子であり、発光素子2(G)と示す。また、発光素子3は、主に青色発光を呈する発光素子であり、発光素子3(B)と示す。

- 第1の表示パネル及び第2の表示パネルを有し、
前記第1の表示パネルは、第1の表示領域を有し、
前記第2の表示パネルは、第2の表示領域及び可視光を透過する領域を有し、
前記第2の表示領域は、前記可視光を透過する領域と隣接し、
前記第1の表示領域は、前記可視光を透過する領域と重なる部分を有し、
前記第1の表示パネルは、第1の発光素子、第2の発光素子、及び第3の発光素子を有し、
前記第1の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.680より大きく0.720以下、色度yが0.260以上0.320以下であり、
前記第2の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.130以上0.250以下、色度yが0.710より大きく0.810以下であり、
前記第3の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.120以上0.170以下、色度yが0.020以上0.060未満である、表示装置。 - 第1の表示パネル及び第2の表示パネルを有し、
前記第1の表示パネルは、第1の表示領域を有し、
前記第2の表示パネルは、第2の表示領域及び可視光を透過する領域を有し、
前記第2の表示領域は、前記可視光を透過する領域と隣接し、
前記第1の表示領域は、前記可視光を透過する領域と重なる部分を有し、
前記第1の表示パネルは、第1の発光素子、第2の発光素子、第3の発光素子、第1の着色層、第2の着色層、及び第3の着色層を有し、
前記第1の着色層を介して得られる前記第1の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.680より大きく0.720以下、色度yが0.260以上0.320以下であり、
前記第2の着色層を介して得られる前記第2の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.130以上0.250以下、色度yが0.710より大きく0.810以下であり、
前記第3の着色層を介して得られる前記第3の発光素子からの発光は、CIE1931色度座標における色度xが0.120以上0.170以下、色度yが0.020以上0.060未満である、表示装置。 - 請求項1または2において、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子は、それぞれ、一対の電極間に、発光層及び電子輸送層を有し、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記発光層は、それぞれ分離しており、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記電子輸送層は、共通の膜である、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至3のいずれか一において、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子は、それぞれ、一対の電極間に、正孔注入層を有し、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記正孔注入層は、共通の膜である、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至4のいずれか一において、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子は、それぞれ、一対の電極間に、正孔輸送層を有し、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記正孔輸送層は、それぞれ分離している、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至5のいずれか一において、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子は、それぞれ、前記一対の電極として、反射電極、及び、半透過・半反射電極を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至6のいずれか一において、
前記第1の表示領域及び前記第2の表示領域の一方または双方は、曲面を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至7のいずれか一において、
前記第1の表示パネルは、第1の曲面と第2の曲面を有し、
前記第1の曲面の曲率半径は、前記第2の曲面の曲率半径よりも大きく、
前記第1の曲面は、前記第1の表示領域を含み、
前記第2の曲面は、前記第1の表示領域を含まない、表示装置。 - 請求項8において、
前記第1の曲面の曲率半径は、前記第2の曲面の曲率半径よりも大きく、かつ、10000mm以下であり、
前記第2の曲面の曲率半径は、1mm以上100mm以下である、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至9のいずれか一において、
さらに、透光層を有し、
前記第1の表示領域は、前記透光層を介して、前記可視光を透過する領域と重なり、
前記透光層は、波長450nm以上700nm以下の範囲の光の透過率の平均値が80%以上である部分を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至10のいずれか一において、
第1のモジュールと第2のモジュールを有し、
前記第1のモジュールは、前記第1の表示パネルと、コネクタまたは集積回路と、を有し、
前記第2のモジュールは、前記第2の表示パネルと、コネクタまたは集積回路と、を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至11のいずれか一に記載の表示装置と、
アンテナ、バッテリ、筐体、カメラ、スピーカ、マイク、または操作ボタンと、を有する、電子機器。 - 第1の発光素子、第2の発光素子、及び第3の発光素子を有し、
前記第1の発光素子が発する光のCIE1931色度座標における色度xは0.680より大きく0.720以下、色度yは0.260以上0.320以下であり、
前記第2の発光素子が発する光のCIE1931色度座標における色度xは0.130以上0.250以下、色度yは0.710より大きく0.810以下であり、
前記第3の発光素子が発する光のCIE1931色度座標における色度xは0.120以上0.170以下、色度yは0.020以上0.060未満であり、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子は、それぞれ、正孔注入層、第1の正孔輸送層、発光層を有し、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記正孔注入層は、共通の膜であり、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記第1の正孔輸送層は、共通の膜であり、
前記第1の発光素子、前記第2の発光素子、及び前記第3の発光素子が有する前記発光層は、それぞれ分離しており、
前記第3の発光素子では、前記第1の正孔輸送層が、前記正孔注入層と前記発光層とに接する、表示パネル。 - 請求項13において、
前記第1の発光素子及び前記第2の発光素子は、第2の正孔輸送層を有し、
前記第1の発光素子及び前記第2の発光素子では、前記第1の正孔輸送層が、前記正孔注入層と接し、前記第2の正孔輸送層が、前記発光層と接する、表示パネル。 - 請求項13または14において、
前記正孔注入層と、前記第1の正孔輸送層とは、同じ材料を含む、表示パネル。 - 請求項13乃至15のいずれか一において、
前記発光層と、前記第2の正孔輸送層とは、同じ材料を含む、表示パネル。 - 請求項13乃至16のいずれか一において、
前記第2の正孔輸送層は、前記第1の正孔輸送層に含まれる材料に比べて、HOMO準位の浅い材料を含む、表示パネル。
