第1支持面と、第2支持面との間に配置された少なくとも1つの同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構であって、前記同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構は、
第1支持面および第2支持面のうちの一方から内方に突出するポストであって、そのポストの一部の上にねじ山付き外面を有する、ポストと、
前記ポストを包囲するように構成された対応スリーブであって、
第1支持面および第2支持面のうちの他方から内方に突出する前記スリーブの一部の上に位置し、かつ前記ポストのねじ山付き外面と界接するように構成されたねじ山付き内面と、
前記スリーブの一部の上に位置するギア付き外面とを有する、対応スリーブと、
前記スリーブのギア付き外面と界接して、同外面を駆動するように構成された表面を有する駆動機構とを備える、同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構を、
前記駆動機構の選択的操作が、椎間板腔の上位椎骨および下位椎骨に対する第1支持面および第2支持面の伸延を引き起こすように備えることを特徴とする、装置。 - 前記スリーブのギア付き外面は、前記ポストのねじ山付き外面および前記スリーブのねじ山付き内面のねじピッチの向きとほぼ反対のねじピッチの向きを有する、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 第1支持面と第2支持面との間に配置された一対の同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構が存在し、前記機構は共通の駆動機構によって駆動される、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構のうちの一方のスリーブのねじ山付き内面およびギア付き外面は、他方の同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構のねじ山付き内面およびギア付き外面のねじピッチの向きとほぼ反対のねじピッチの向きを有する、請求項61に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記駆動機構はウォーム駆動部である、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記駆動機構は一対のねじ部分を有するウォーム駆動部であり、各ねじ部分は前記同軸スクリューギアスリーブ機構のうちの一方と界接するように構成されている、請求項61に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記駆動機構が前記スリーブのギア付き外面を駆動するとき、前記駆動機構は並進的に静止している、請求項59または61に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 第1支持面は第1部材の外面であり、第2支持面は第2部材の外面であり、前記スリーブは、前記スリーブが突出する支持面に対応する第1部材または第2部材の一方のスリーブ開口内に、前記スリーブのギア付き外面が前記スリーブ開口内の雌ねじ山と界接するように嵌合する、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記駆動機構は、前記スリーブ開口の雌ねじ山内の孔を介して、前記スリーブのギア付き外面と界接する、請求項66に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 前記スリーブの一部はまた、前記第1支持面および第2支持面の他方を介して外側に突出する、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置。
- 椎体間伸延および固定を行うために、請求項59に記載の伸延可能な装置を用いる方法であって、
前記伸延可能な装置を提供する工程と、
前記装置によって椎体間固定および伸延を行うための指示を提供する工程とを備え、
前記指示は、
圧縮形態にある前記伸延可能な椎間体固定装置を、隣接する椎骨間に画定された患者の椎間板腔内に、前記第1支持面が椎間板腔の上位椎骨の終板と界接し、かつ前記第2支持面が前記椎間板腔の下位椎骨の終板と界接するように挿入する工程と、
前記ポストに対して前記スリーブを回転させるように前記駆動機構を操作することによって、前記装置を拡張形態に伸延する工程であって、前記駆動機構の操作により前記第1支持面を前記第2支持面に対して拡張させて、前記椎間板腔の上位椎骨の終板を下位椎骨の終板に対して伸延する工程とを含む、方法。 - 前記ポストに対して前記スリーブを回転させるように前記駆動機構を操作するための指示を提供する工程は、前記スリーブを前記第2支持面に対して伸延させ、前記ポストを前記第2支持面およびスリーブに対して同時に伸延させる指示を提供するものである、請求項69に記載の方法。
- 前記駆動機構を操作する指示を提供する工程は、前記スリーブの外側ギアと界接するねじ部分を有するウォーム駆動部を回転させる指示を提供するものである、請求項69に記載の方法。
- デリバリーシステムを提供する工程をさらに備え、前記指示は前記デリバリーシステムを前記装置に接続し、前記装置を前記デリバリーシステムによって挿入する工程をさらに備える、請求項69に記載の方法。
- 前記装置を伸延する指示を提供する工程は、前記駆動機構を回転させるために、前記デリバリーシステムのデリバリーシャフトを回転させる指示を提供するものである、請求項72に記載の方法。
