Abstract
【解決手段】炭酸塩、重炭酸塩、リン酸塩、グリコール酸塩およびそれらの混合物のような非ハロゲンアニオン含む第四級アンモニウム塩からなり、例えば1種以上の炭酸または重炭酸第四級アンモニウムを含む組成物を塗布する方法及びこの方法に従って処理した金属基材及び上記組成物を含む金属基材についてのさび止め塗料。

Description
本発明は、化成被覆としての並びに塗料およびコーティング剤の添加剤としての、炭酸塩、重炭酸塩、リン酸塩およびグリコール酸塩のような非ハロゲンアニオンを含む第四級アンモニウム塩の使用に関する。
金属表面が水(液体の水であれ湿っぽい空気であれ)と接触するプロセスにおいて、常に腐食の危険が存在する。このことは、金属自体が腐食する傾向があり、コートされていない場合に特に問題である。
重炭酸塩、炭酸塩、リン酸塩およびグリコール酸塩のような非ハロゲンアニオンを含む第四級アンモニウム塩、より具体的にはアニオンとして重炭酸塩、炭酸塩、リン酸塩およびグリコール酸塩を含むジアルキルジメチルアンモニウム塩、およびこれらの種々の組み合わせが、金属表面、特にスチールのための化成被覆としての適用性を有することが発見された。さらに、上記の第四級物は、スチール基材上の所望の表面酸化物(すなわち、マグネタイト、Fe3O4)の成長のような所望の表面変質をもたらすことができることが発見された。この酸化物形成は明確な結晶ドメインをもたらし、これは金属基材に対して付着し、かつこれに対して塗料のようなコーティング剤は改善された付着を示すことが期待される。加えて、上記第四級アンモニウム塩は塗料に直接的に加えることができ、金属表面に対する塗料のより優れた付着を提供し、よって耐食性を改善する。
驚くべきことに、炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウムのような非ハロゲンアニオンを含むある種の第四級アンモニウム塩は、鉄およびスチールのような鉄合金の表面に塗布された際に、鉄およびスチールのような鉄合金の表面上の既知の所望の変質を、従来知られているものよりも非常に穏やかな温度条件下でもたらす傾向を有することが見出された。>110℃におけるスチール表面の熱的に誘発される変質は当該技術分野において知られており、これらの変質をもたらすのに必要とされる高温は、今まで、それらの商取引の開発を制限していた。しかしながら、上記の第四級アンモニウム塩は、室温程度の低い温度においてスチール表面の同様の変質をもたらすことができると思われる。
a)原材料をオイルを用いて不動態化して、フラッシュさびを防止し、
b)不動態化オイルを除去して処理し、
c)金属表面を化成被覆溶液(酸性の、重原子を含有する化学物質)により処理し、最終的なコーティング剤を塗布する前に硬化させる。
(a)非ハロゲンアニオンを含む少なくとも1種の第四級アンモニウム塩、および
(b)任意に溶媒
を含む組成物に上記の基材を接触させる工程を含む。

より好ましい実施形態において、R2はベンジルまたはフェニルエチルである。
他の好ましい実施形態において、R1およびR2は同じC1−20アルキル基である。
より好ましい実施形態において、R1およびR2はC10アルキル基である。
さらにより好ましい実施形態において、R1およびR2はn−C10アルキル基である。
特に好ましい実施形態において、第四級アンモニウム塩は炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウム、および/または重炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウムである。
好ましくは、金属基材はスチールである。
より好ましくは、スチールはコイル状シートスチールである。
ここでも、好ましい金属基材はスチールである。
(a)非ハロゲンアニオンを含む少なくとも1種の第四級アンモニウム塩、
(b)バインダ、
(c)任意に、溶媒、および
(d)任意に、顔料
を含むさび止め塗料である。

さらに好ましい実施形態において、さび止め塗料はEコーティング塗料である。
他の好ましい実施形態において、さび止め塗料はアクリル塗料である。

化成被覆研究(リファレンス:NB5751−001〜018)を、CarboShield(登録商標)1000(重炭酸/炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウム)、「Phosphoquat」(リン酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウム)、および種々の関連する対照のいずれかの種々の水性処理によりスチールパネル(S−46,オハイオ州,クリーブランド,Q−Panel Lab Productsから購入)を調製することを目的として行った。

*)CarboShield(登録商標)1000は、(重)炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウムの50%水溶液である(90モル%重炭酸塩、10モル%炭酸塩)。
噴霧塗布した(エナメル)パネルは、対照パネルに対して、塗料付着における大きな改善を示した。評価したサンプルの殆どについて、ラテック塗料サンプルは、試験サンプルと対応する対照との間で違いを示さなかった。Eコートサンプルは、144時間後に剥がれる最小の塗料の量を示した。試験サンプルと対照との間に存在する差異に適切な結果を、以下の表1および2にまとめる。
ラテックス塗料を、表7に示す成分の量および順番並びに工程段階に従って配合した。1つの配合(例2)はCarboShield(登録商標)1000を含むが、一方他方の配合(比較例1)は非イオン性界面活性剤(Triton X−100)と一般的なさび止め剤(Canguard(登録商標)327)の組み合わせを含んだ。
Tamol(登録商標)850は、Rohm and Haas Co.,フィラデルフィア,ペンシルバニアのポリアクリル酸ナトリウムである。
Triton(登録商標)X−100は、Dow Chemical Companyのオクチルフェノールエトキシレートである。
Drewplus(登録商標)L−493は、Ashland Specialty Chemical Co.,ブーントン,ニュージャージーの消泡剤である。
Canguard(登録商標)327は、Dow Chemical Companyの子会社であるANGUS Chemical Companyのオキサゾリジンベースのさび止め剤である。
AMP−95(登録商標)は、ANGUS Chemical Companyから入手できる5%水を含む2−アミノ−2−メチル−1−プロパノールである。
Ti−Pure(登録商標)R−931は、DuPont Titanium Technologies,ウィルミントン,デラウェアのルチル型二酸化チタン顔料である。
UCAR(登録商標)123は、UCAR Emulsion Systems,カリー,ノールカロライナの高固体スチレン−アクリルバインダである。
Texanol(登録商標)は、Eastman Chemical Company,キングズポート,テネシーの2,2,4−トリメチル−1,3−ペンタンジオールモノイソブチラートである。
Acrosol(登録商標)RM−825は、BASF AG,ルートウィヒスハーフェン,ドイツのアクリレートコポリマーベースのレオロジー改変剤である。
Claims (23)
- 金属基材の表面に化成被覆を形成するための方法であって、前記方法は、前記基材を、
(a)非ハロゲンアニオンを含む少なくとも1種の第四級アンモニウム塩、および
(b)任意に溶媒
を含む組成物に接触させる工程を含む方法。 - Xn−が、炭酸塩、重炭酸塩、リン酸塩およびグリコール酸塩から成る群から選択される請求項2に記載の方法。
- R3およびR4がメチル基である請求項2または3に記載の方法。
- R1がメチルであることを特徴とする請求項2〜4のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- R2がベンジルまたはフェニルエチルである請求項2〜5のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- R1およびR2が同じC1−20アルキル基である請求項2〜4のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- R1およびR2がC10アルキル基である請求項7に記載の方法。
- R1およびR2がn−C10アルキル基である請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記第四級アンモニウム塩が、炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウムおよび/または重炭酸ジ−n−デシルジメチルアンモニウムである請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記金属基材がスチールである請求項1〜10のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 前記スチールがコイル状シートスチール(coiled sheet steel)である請求項11に記載の方法。
- 請求項1〜12のいずれか一項に記載の方法に従って処理した金属基材を含む製品。
- 前記金属基材がスチールである請求項13に記載の製品。
- (a)非ハロゲンアニオンを含む少なくとも1種の第四級アンモニウム塩、
(b)バインダ、
(c)任意に溶媒、および
(d)任意に顔料
を含むさび止め塗料。 - 前記第四級アンモニウム塩が、式
を有する請求項15に記載のさび止め塗料。 - 前記バインダが、アクリル樹脂、カゼイン(牛乳のタンパク)、ビニール樹脂、ラテックス樹脂、アセテート樹脂、エポキシ樹脂、およびそれらの混合物から成る群から選択される請求項15または16に記載のさび止め塗料。
