Abstract

Description
本発明のポリマー粒子は、組成物、例えば被覆組成物などの中での結合機能を示すことができ、すなわち、粒子を含む膜の一体性に貢献することができ、および乾燥組成物における有用な水準の不透明性を示すことができる。さらに、本発明のポリマー粒子は、乾燥時に少なくとも1つの空隙を含まないポリマー粒子バインダーと比較してエネルギー節約をもたらす、というのはそのポリマーまたはそのボイド空間を典型的に占有する他の物質が幾分かのエネルギー消費を伴って製造されなければならないからである。
重合単位として、前記コアの重量を基準にして5重量%〜100重量%の少なくとも1種の親水性モノエチレン性不飽和モノマーを含む前記コアを形成し;

コア2:コアポリマーは米国特許第6,020,435号の実施例1−16の手順に従って製造された。ろ過された分散物は31.9%の固体含有量および95nmの平均粒子サイズを有していた。
崩壊%は、80%RHでのS/Mil(不透明度)対<30%RHでのS/milの散乱に基づいて計算された。実施例6においては、7.0グラム(固体)の膜形成性バインダーRHOPLEX(商標)AC−264と混合された3.0グラム(固体)ポリマー粒子のブレンドを使用して、S/milが決定された。比較例A〜Fおよび実施例1〜5は、第2シェル対、ポリマー粒子の他の全ての構成物の合計の重量比1:1を有しており、試験条件下ではそれだけ(neat)で膜を形成しない。

- コア、第1シェルおよび第2シェルを含むポリマー粒子であって;
前記コアは乾燥時に少なくとも1つの空隙を含み;
前記第1シェルポリマーは50℃を超える計算ガラス転移温度(Tg)を有し、かつ重合単位として、前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして15重量%〜60重量%のアクリロニトリル、メタクリロニトリル、アクリルアミド、メタクリルアミドおよびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるモノマー、並びに前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして0.3重量%〜10重量%の多エチレン性不飽和モノマーを含み;並びに、
前記第2シェルポリマーは−60℃〜50℃のTgを有し;
前記第2シェルポリマー対、前記ポリマー粒子の他の全ての構造体の合計の重量比が0.5:1から3:1までである;

50℃を超えるTgを有し、かつ重合単位として、前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして15重量%〜60重量%のアクリロニトリル、メタクリロニトリル、アクリルアミド、メタクリルアミドおよびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるモノマー、並びに前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして0.3重量%〜10重量%の多エチレン性不飽和モノマーを含む前記第1シェルポリマーを、前記コアの存在下で形成し;並びに
−60℃〜50℃のTgを有する前記第2シェルポリマーを、前記第1シェルポリマーの存在下で、前記第1シェルポリマーのTgより30℃低い温度から100℃の間の温度で形成し;前記第2シェルポリマー対、前記ポリマー粒子の他の全ての構造体の合計の重量比が0.5:1から3:1までである;
ことを含む方法。 - 前記粒子が多段階水性乳化重合により形成される、請求項3に記載の方法。
- (a)コア、第1シェルおよび第2シェルを含むポリマー粒子と、水性媒体とを含む組成物であって;
前記コアは乾燥時に少なくとも1つの空隙を含み;
前記第1シェルポリマーは50℃を超える計算ガラス転移温度(Tg)を有し、かつ重合単位として、前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして15重量%〜60重量%のアクリロニトリル、メタクリロニトリル、アクリルアミド、メタクリルアミドおよびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるモノマー、並びに前記第1シェルポリマーの重量を基準にして0.3重量%〜10重量%の多エチレン性不飽和モノマーを含み;並びに、
前記第2シェルポリマーは−60℃〜50℃のTgを有し;
前記第2シェルポリマー対、当該ポリマー粒子の他の全ての構造体の合計の重量比が0.5:1から3:1までである、
組成物を形成し;
(b)前記組成物を基体に適用し;並びに
(c)前記適用された組成物を乾燥させまたは乾燥させておく;
ことを含む、乾燥組成物に不透明性を与える方法。 - 前記粒子が多段階水性乳化重合により形成される、請求項5に記載の方法。
